Dometic v.s. Duo-Therm Hard Start Kit - yikes, help....

After a bunch of trying we have come to the conclusion that our new Yamaha 2400iSHC genny will run the a/c that came on our 2017 winnebago micro minnie 1706fb. If we start it on shore power, and cool the cabin down a bit, then it will run it ad nauseum once switched over to the genny (and no, the genny has no switch to take it off smart throttle mode, whereby it senses the pull and then adjusts throttle accordingly). However it will not start it!!
I have even run the a/c on fan for 20 mins on the genny, then (you have to turn the switch on the a/c unit through the off position before it goes into the cooling side of the switch, so there is no way to keep the a/c on and then turn on the a/c side as a separate move) tried to run the a/c side, and again the genset goes into overload.
Once the overload light goes on, you have to switch the genset off, then start it again. no problem there, but the a/c still won't start.

So, in addition to checking our "dogbone" connector before ordering, we are going to order a hard start, quick start, etc...kit from either Duo Therm or Dometic. (and yes, I have isolated all the draw on the genny while running test...turned off all other breakers).
We are wondering if anyone might help orient us as to which may be preferable.
I am still trying to find out from Winnebago which exact model of Brisk Air they have in our tt. The manual covers about 10 models, so not sure at this time, but I know it is the 13,500 btu size.
The dometic model most indicated for this purpose seems to be: #3310727.015 or 3311883.000
Duo therm seems to be p/n 3102903.006
If anyone can help illuminate why one may be more applicable than the other, we would be very grateful for your advice.
Many thanks in advance for any help.
cheers
Bob

I had run the 13.5k in my previous 5th with my Yamaha 2400 with no issues, no additional capacitor needed.

I rolled the dice and got a 15k unit with our new fifth wheel. No go running it with the 2400. I added a Supco SPP6 and it runs now. I only do this occasionally, when we are without hookups and need the break from the heat. It works fine for us.

Ran my duo therm 7200 btu ac on the new yamaha 2000 inverter genny. Worked fine, even ran it on eco with fridge on after the ac was on for a while. Batt were fully charged, so charger did not draw anything.

Installed the supco today. real easy to do, cleaned the coils too, and discovered why I had a leak sometimes while the ac was running. Mud daubers made a mess, and had the water backing up.

How much difference will using non alcohol gas make in starting your a/c? I bet not using it why many 2000's gennys will not start the smaller a/c'c.

Been using non-ethanol gas from day 1

Kudos! This really is the best way to go IMHO. It will start a compressor with lower line voltage than simple upgrading of a capacitor. Also these things VASTLY increase the life of a capacitor. Bookmarked the link!

mxwanderer: Just wondering if you mean increase the life of the genny?

We like the yamaha 2400iSHC for its portability and low noise level, 4 yr warranty, and price (1200). However, it would be nice to be able to turn the eco mode on and off, as well as a bypass to the inverter with a 220v outlet.
Although we have already bought and installed the DuoTherm hsk, we might at one point consider the smart start if the impact on the genny cannot be mitigated. When the compressor kicks on the first time or if we jack up the cold thermostat during operation, the genny goes very low and almost sounds like it's going to stall, but never does! And doesn't overload as well.
However, inside the tt, the full brown out conditions are very evident...the a/c struggles and goes very low for about 2 or 3 seconds, the m/wave shuts off and start up again, etc...
Doesn't make me feel to good especially if the fridge is on auto at that time and choosing to run off a/c.
Don't like the impact to the electronics at all, so if the new auto electric place tells me the hsk is in fact connected correctly, I will probably go with one of these, as mentioned above.
thanks again to all for the very helpful directions to look at, suggestions, and advice
gratefully appreciated

Sure wish my fridge had a gas only switch just for that reason. guess I will have to turn it off while starting a/c on genny, then back on after start. Lots to remember when using a marginal one.

This is not possible with the design of the system.

Me Book Mark Two...

AND LINKED HERE FOR SELLER

AND HERE FOR MANUFACTURER

I found some made by Schneider/SquareD but the 115V didn't seem to have the amps capacity needed for an A/C.

Any link possible to such an animal?

If you have an inverter/charger like Prosine 2.0 and it is properly installed, try to start A/C with inverter ON. Normally when generator is running the inverter is in STAND-BY mode. When the compressor bogs down the generator, the inverter takes over for a moment and A/C start instantly. Totally painless.
