Fridge Fix

A number of folks on another forum I read bought the Fridge Fix fans to help with poor performance on 2 specific fridges. I did not read where they helped much. I believe some of the folks found cheaper setups on ebay.

Last year our frig wouldn't keep everything as cool as it had been. I attributed that to "excess open door problems". Cooling was very good sometime and just marginal at other times.

On a 3 week trip out west the frig started failing with a "no cooling" error code. After being reset it might work for a few hours or a couple of days. Cooling was marginal when working. Threw the food away twice.

To make this a shorter story, the vent fan had failed. What we learned was the frig worked OK when moving down the road. When we stopped moving and the temps were hot it failed with the error. When in the mountains where there were cooler temps we had no error codes but it didn't always get as cold as it should.

The freezer, except when the unit had fail with the "no co" error, was still getting cold enough to make ice, although we think it took longer.

I replace the fan and added an extra "helper/auxiliary" fan just for backup.

If you're handy, you can rig up a couple computer fans as others have pointed out. Same concept and cheaper.

Oh my, I think I'll stick to my little blue battery powered fan. That much money for a couple of computer fans is way out of line IMO. And what's the deal with the LED lights? Just something to add heat to the inside of the fridge. Not a good idea since the whole idea is to keep the inside as cool as possible.

It's a good idea, but too much money.

I bought the one that clips onto the evaporator fins but it was a pain to use. Things in the frig would bump it and knock it off or hit the fan and stop it from turning.


Adding an external fan to pull the heat out of the condenser vent does sometimes help the unit get to the temp you want.

If your frig is on a slide out you should already have the external vent fan as it doesn't vent through the roof.

If your frig works better on electric than on propane you may need to clean the burner assembly.

Thanks for that input. We've used the portable battery operated fan for years. We buy lots of "D" batteries!

Our frig is in a slide. When we bring it out of storage next week, I'll have to check to see if it already has a fan.

The frig doesn't work better on electric. I think it cools better on gas.

I've no direct experience with this particular fan, but air circulation inside the frig does help.

The best combination is "internal" fans & "external" fans. The external fans mount on the backside of the frig unit at the bottom & top accessing the area from the outside of the coach. A set of fans at the bottom area to draw air in & a fan at the top vent to pull air out.

Although not as glamorous, this is what I have installed inside my frig @ a cost of $20. If you have a large frig, just install two units if desired, but probably not necessary. These are self grounding & a very simple installation.

This company also has the external fan set-up. If you tell them what make & model frig you have , they can give you the best direction.

5 dollar computer muffin fans will do the same thing. Maybe not as glamerous, but......
