Generac guardian oscillating

I don't need an Onan lecture, I've had plenty ussues wirh my Onans roo.
My gen runs well for approx 45 min then it oscillates and sometimes dies.
I feel its the govenor or the sender on carb. I moved the sender ti ubplug while trying to troubleshoot, and for several moments it stopped.
I'm curios how the elect govenors Work ( old school is easy) and what the carb sender does.
30 wt well maintained, so its in fantastic shape. (good friend is tech,) but I can't impose on him right now.
Im looking for any ideas. I need this to run right in 2 weeks for a big event.
Thanks.
  • Dirt Bag,
i have no experience with Generac, but have worked on most Gennies out there.
As suggested, remove the gas cap first, depending on how far away the tank is from the pump, even a little extra restriction can cause a problem.
Second, I would suspect the fuel pump is getting hot and not pumping enough fuel.
I would think if there was something wrong with the governor, it would not take ~45 mins to act up, but again since its electrical, it might get hot and cause a problem.
Many friends I have camped with have replaced a fuel pump, common problem.
Hope you get it fixed soon.

  • Try opening your gas cap and see if it keeps running?
Sounds like it is starving for fuel?
  • dirtbag3 I'm going to move your post from Toy Haulers over to the Tech Issues forum as I think it fits in better there and you will get more detailed help by a wider audience.
