Generator cuts off in hot weather.

Question

I have a Onan 5500 generator that keeps cutting off on hot days going down the road, temps around 90 to 96.  It will run about 30 min then cut off will start back and run about 1 or 2 min then cut off again, will not start back up.  I ran into rain storm and cooled outside temp down to about 80 to 85 started generator up and keep running the rest of the way home about 1 1/2 hours.  Any suggestions.

I had the same problem with my onan. ended up being the fuel pump.

I also had same problem &amp; an AIRTEX replacement pump from AMAZON cured the issue!

Some people have moved the fuel pump off the Genny to keep it cool. Try mounting it on a wall

The Onan generators usually have a code to identify the problem. A Cummins repair place should be able to check for codes.  We had the same problem and turns out the coolant was low.
