- wa8yxmExplorer IIIOne of the nice things about Inverter generators is they monitor their output rather well (At least the better ones do) if they are "out of spec" they shut off. Duplicating the function of the EMS
So.. You can use it.. But no need since the primary functions are already served.
Same I might add is true of ONAN traditional generators (The make I have in my A, I do not know about other brands but suspect the top end ones are all alike in this manner.. The Onan, if power out goes out of range for too long (Brief low frequency/voltage wont' bother it) shuts the engine off and flashes an error code.. I mean if you are not making 120vac,, why burn gas? - drumming102ExplorerGreat thanks guys.
- tvman44ExplorerThat is true of most all generators, inverter or synchronous.

I have a champion 3100 Inverter genny and also a PI 30A external EMS.
Am I correct in remembering reading that I should NOT use the EMS with an inverter Generator?
If your Champ has a floating neutral output as do most inverter gensets then as mentioned you'll need a G-N bonding plug, otherwise your Progressive EMS will interpret the signal as having an open ground and won't pass voltage on to the output and therefore on to the trailer. That said, there's little reason to bother using a portable EMS with your genset and although Progressive doesn't mention any other brand of genset, including your Champ, the company does warn against using any of their EMS units with a Yamaha EF2000iS inverter genset. Considering this I'd probably not bother using a portable EMS when powering from an inverter genset.
Progressive Industries EMS / Yamaha EF2000iS Disclaimer - hbillsmithExplorerYou can but you need to plug a "ground neutral" adapter plug into one of the 110s. Go to the "shockzone.cim" website to see how to build one or just buy one from EMS.
