- westendExplorerI'd suggest you have someone who specializes in "headaches" take a look at it and see if a repair could be accomplished cheaply. That tactic seems better than having a $2100 doorstop under the bench.
If I was closer, I'd fix it for you. It was, after all, built by man so it can be repaired.
Good luck with it, maybe someone on the Forum can help you get the old one working. - crosscheckExplorer IIUPDATE:

If you had separate components you would just be replacing the transfer relay.
The reason that I asked the question was that my Xantrex Freedom 2000 SW(5 years old) is kaput. So I must replace it. The fault code(F04) says it is the AC transfer relay. The new generation #815-2012 Freedom 2000 SW (12V),is exactly the same except for newer engineered electronics so it would be easy to install and I can use the same remote but in 5 years will I have to replace it again. Are there better products out there, Chinese or otherwise? I would like a combo inverter/charger.
Dave
Separate inverter and converter can be wired to operate virtually the same as the combo unit.
Although I would be tempted to open the box and replace the relay on your old unit.
Ordered the Xantrex Freedom SW 2000W Inverter/Charger 815-2012 for $2100.00 Cdn. with tax and shipping from Binnacle.com. Installed the unit in June and have used it a number of times camping. For me the unit is identical to the one I had previously which had the AC relay fail on it. Maybe 1/2 hour of re-attaching the wires and it was good to go. Makes a lot less fan noise when under big load(hairdryer, microwave, toaster, Hot Tub, HaHaHa I wish) than the old one. Hope it lasts longer than the other unit which is under my work bench if anyone wants to swing by and think they can make it work with a new relay.
smkettner: Thanks for the suggestion of separate units doing the same job. Probably cheaper if you know what to do, but for me, more of a hassle to wire and I specialize in fun, not headaches.

they do have combo units
and their products are engineered for the industrial/commercial market, very rugged
my trip-lite 1250 inverter is almost 6yrs old, works like brand new
is used 24/7 to power our residential fridge

Go Power does not make inverter/chargers nor inverters with a transfer switch.
The inverters are excellent. I recommend to stick with sine wave.
I prefer separate components so Go Power is a good fit for me.
And yes I have the GP-SW2000-12

http://gpelectric.com/products/inverters - 2oldmanExplorer III'd have to look that up for you.
- darsbenExplorer IIIf it is an inverter it takes 12V and makes it 110. It is purported to be pure sine wave.
There is no battery charge function
