Got my new (used) batteries!! Now, how do I rejuvenate them?

After a YEAR of Murphy's-law delays (his health, my health, getting stranded on the way there, etc., etc.) I have finally got my hands on 4 Fiamm 132aH, Just like Mr Wizard's.

I figure I should check in with you guys 1st, rather than just stick them on a charger.

They range 12.33-12.68 volts right now, with no load. I think the middle two were 12.49 and 12.66.

The Fiamm spec sheet says they like 14.1-14.4v charging, 13.62 float.

I have a PD9280 and a NOCO gen charger that puts out 10 amps. The PD says it puts out 13.6v, but ISTR there is a trick to get it to do 14.4? The NOCO is uber-smart, when I put a meter on it it seemed to do a slow cycle between 13.6-13.8v. No doubt it does other stuff when I am not looking. I could make it do 20 or 30 amps if I put clamps on the other outputs.

I also have 24v chargers: A just-arrived ebay Meanwell that can do 28v 10 amps, and a couple 5amp-ers.

Should I charge these guys separately because they might respond differently, or connect them in pairs, series or parallel, so I can give them high amps (PD) or high volts (Meanwell)?

Or should I order that adjustable volts and amps ebay power supply and give them fixed amps?

I want to do right by these batteries after going thru so much to get them! And the new van, but that's another day ;).

Our press is too busy slinging mud to give a **** about real news. The "slightest" fever above 99F, get to the doctor. Your wooziness is from a middle-ear infection. Stop it early and not come down with strep throat or even pneumonia. As long as I am preaching I verified our vaunted medical community does not have even a shred of common sense. Inoculations against pneumonia reduce incidence of inner ear infections more than 80%. If I had run my business like this I would have gone bankrupt shortly before being shot 500-times. I speak from experience as a Paramedic. Take care of yourself - your batteries are worried.

Oh, gosh! I think a couple of my family members have this! I will pass your message to them and watch out for myself. YOU take care!

Head for bed with a tablet and pencil. Time to rest and daydream.Forget the batteries. They are testing as I write this. When you return to health check their voltage. You wouldn't want to give them your virus, would you?

I can test them. I think I caught a virus or something -- am woozy and tired, last few days. Not trusting myself with novel processes involving a lot of stored electricity. So they are sitting.

I was gonna use my 300w heater and an inverter to test them, but it has a thermostat. Not sure what it will do in summer temps but I can put it on the killawatt and see. When I feel unwoozy enough to not worry about setting the house on fire :B

Right now I am cooking chicken soup on a hot plate on the porch (to keep the heat out of the house). That is fire hazard enough as I keep spilling fat on the burner.

As for Mex's question about next projects -- I am not sure what you mean. I need to start paint prep on the s&b and put a front hitch on the van, but those don't involve batteries :B. Maybe you are kindly offering to advise on my next round of questions, but I may not have any at the moment.

I am always so grateful for you guys' help!

Yep agree with Mr. Wizard...

When it comes to AGM never assume anything.

It's the rested voltage that tells you they're going to play nice when mom's in the kitchen. More than .20 difference volt means war drums on the Chattahoochee.

It's time to put them to work IMHO. It's a simple YES/NO test.

Bit n bridle. Blanket. Saddle. Bedroll. Coffee pot, beans, flour, and ride on out. You've done all you can.

What's the next project on the master list?

i would test them
true they are currently lower than the others
and true that when in parallel, they could possibly siphon some power from the others
but if they hold status quo, while sitting, and test decently ( no shorted cells)
they still add to the over all of total power available when out camping
I can explain it to you.
But I Can Not understand it for you !

I've got 2 of them that are that low :(. The other charged normally, but would not take much.

Is it a coincidence that these are the 2 that were the highest after storage? Neither gained much from charging.

Is it a waste of time to test them?

Make it do a full set of PT Jumping Jacks then see if it complains. It's faster than doing a 2-week long rest and recheck. Put it to work Naio, and see how it measures up to a brother battery.

12.80 is awfully low. Delete the suffix from awfully and sadly that is what you have. Myself i wouldn't even bother but you spent money on it and this needs to be be proven to you.

Took 2 days to charge and desulfate that one, but all went happily without incident.

Now, what do I do about battery A? This is the one that was 12.78 pre-charging, but got scary hot so it did not get much juice before I unhooked it.

Mex said let it sit for a week and then see what it reads, may be a bad cell. It is at 12.80. What does that tell me?

Raised itself to 12.64v.... this is nigh on 2 hours of it increasing the voltage.
