Help with fan on Dometic RM2852 refrigerator

The fan on our frig used to run all the time. Now it doesn't seem to be running at all. The frig is still cold, so that's not a problem. We just want to know what conditions will make the fan turn on and is there a way to trigger it to make sure it still works. Any suggestions is appreciated. Thanks again
  • The fan runs from a tstat mounted on the upper rear cooling unit condenser fins. The refer may be cold but will NOT when the outside temps rise and the fan does not operate. Unless the refer is in a slide room you have to pull the refer to replace or troubleshoot the fan/tstat. Doug
  • If you can find the stat that controls the fans you can bypass it and see if they come on.
  • In outside compartment next to control module is a 'terminal block' (4 lugs) with 12V DC +/- wiring coming in and then 12V DC +/- going out.

RED (+) goes to 2 different devices.......1 is a thermal disc on burner stack
the other goes to a fuse holder (3A) them up to very top of fridge to another thermal disc (Attached to far right fin of condenser....closes 130*F/opens 115*F) from disc down to fan which is located mid-section center just above absorber tubes.

IF outside ambient temps are not above high 80s fan may not need to run but fan could be bad, thermal disc could be bad or wiring could be loose

Accessing condenser section and thermal disc.....
Either via upper side vent in slide out or down thru roof vent.
  • Old - Biscuit, thanks for the info. We checked it out and found the thermal cut is not hot. We bypass it and the fan does turn on. Is there any way to test the thermal cut to see if it works. Is there an ohm reading we can take? Thanks for your help.
  • It is a bi-metallic snap disc......Normally OPEN

Closes when condenser fin temp reaches 130*F or higher
Opens when condenser fin temp drops to 115*F or lower

Dometic Part number 3850306063 thermal fuse
    $25-$33 depending on supplier
