Another way (and one that involves less personal contact!) is to close the tank vent, open the fuel valve and shake the generator vigorously for a few seconds. Wait about 20 seconds or so and it should fire up in one or two yanks. We use this method during PDI of all our new EU1000s and 2000s. Don't forget to reopen the vent!

Aside from Sea Foam I also always used 100% ethanol free gas in my two EU2000i gensets, understandably not readily available everywhere but here in Ontario is sold as premium gas at Esso and Shell gas stations. Using both I had no need to ever drain the carb and either genset would easily start on the first couple of pulls no matter how long it had been since it last ran. :B

I installed one in ours last spring along with an hour meter from Hutch Mtn at the same time. Both, easy mods.

The mod is note worthy but there are other ways ... I run Sea Foam in the fuel for both my 2000s. I keep a mix of it in the fuel at all times so I don’t need to winterize and don’t need to ponder over whether or not I have Seafoam in the fuel...

Keeps the carbs clean, 1 pull start, and they are stored for 3 to 5 months at a time during winter season with no running..

I installed that switch on my 2000 right after buying the generator. I never use it though, I would have been served just as well to unplug the connector that grounds out the ignition and leave it.

I personally think the gas shut off on the Honda 2000s is a non issue. They are very easy to drain, and it takes less time to drain the carb than to install whatever kit you buy.

I just start mine every month and let them run a little while under a slight load to get fresh gas in the carb.

I drain my carb bowl manually and find that when I need to start the generator that I can avoid most of the extra pulls by switching on the generator and open the gas cap vent before I start getting everything setup. A few minutes later it starts with a couple of pulls. I assume the carb has slowly gravity filled.

Run it out of gas. Pour in a 1/4 cup of naptha white gas, restart the engine and let it run out again. Good to go 5 years later. Professional loggers use this method in their seven thousand dollar Stihl 2-man chain saws.

standard on the new 2200. I have it on my 2000 companion and it is well worth it. more than just a nice feature.

However, unless I'm going to store the honda for more than a month I don't use it. Why? once it has run dry, it will take 6 or more rope pulls to get it to start. need to fill the carb bowl. Just something to be aware of. So, if your going to only leave it for overnight or a few days, just turn it off like normal, don't run it dry!!

Nice this it the product lets you choose either shutdown mode. run dry or regular shutoff.

It's a quality product, easy to install, very reasonably priced and later you can add the propane/ng adapter as well.

Good idea! It seems some new ones are coming this way. My new 2K has a dial called EZ start, right by the pull starter. It has choke, half choke, run, GAS SHUTOFF, and stop. Mine is pictured here in a recent thread.

It has been talked about some time ago, but it is good to repeat the information. Fuel in carburetors during storage is not a good thing. The product is a convenience for those that install it, and your post is a good reminder for anyone to drain the carburetor one way or another.
