Honda 3000 generator

Anyone run a 15,000 BTU A/C with one?

Moved to Tech Issues forum from DIY.

  • I, like fnshook, have been running a 15k unit (3 different ones) with my EU3000is since 2001. This covers many football tailgating weekends in Alabama, where 90 degree days are common in September.
  • I HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE RUN MY 15000BTU AIR WITH A HONDA 2000!. 750 WATT MICRO WONT EVEN GO.
  • Runs ours just fine. I just need to remember to not try to run the microwave at the same time.
  • Had one for about 5 years. Works fine with 15K air, it just doesn't like to start the compressor with the microwave running.
  • We run ours with no difficulty. We've had our 3000 for 12 years and still runs like a champ.
  • I don't have a 3000, but I used to run a 13,500 with a 2000. There should be no reason a 3000 wouldn't handle a 15,000 with power to spare. I wouldn't expect to run the microwave, coffee maker and electric water heater along with the AC, but it should run the AC fine.

I currently run two 15,000 units along with just about anything else I want to at the same time with an Onan 5500 generator so even splitting that in half you should only need less than 2750 watts for a single AC unit and modest other items.
