Hour meter

Hi All
Just overhauled my Generac 5.5 generator, the remote panel in the coach has an hour meter, how can i out it back to 0
Thanks
AL
  • Hi All.

All good answers. If you put in a New Meter and don't make it known its not the true hours on it, it is Fraud. plain and simple.

  • We had a new gen installed by Cummins/Onan. They noted on the receipt the hours on the meter at the time of replacement.
  • If you put a new transmision or engine in a Car, would it be ethical to roll back the odometer to 0???----NO. Doug
  • To answer the original question, you can buy a new hour meter for about $20. For example, this meter.
But you may want to add a label that says, original hours on generator were XXX.

I provide technical advice. The ethics is up to you.

I like the P-Touch solution (Stick a label that says Overhauled at xxxx hours)

This is 100% informative, 100% true and nobody can accuse you of fraud.

I'm not sure you should do that even if you can. It would give a false representation of the status of the gen to a future owner. Instead I would document what you did, when you did it, and the reading on the meter when it was done.

  • Al,

    Don't bother.
Just get a label to stick on that says: Overhauled at XXXX hours.
That is what we do in the rest of the mechanical world.
