The last year we used metered sites (2012) the cost varied from 3 to 4 pesos per kwh.

I find the tier system fair here. If I am a pig on power.....I pay, si no? I pay very little. If you have extra fridges, electric dry your clothes and can't live with out the juice...no problem, you can pay for it. Sustainability is becoming a real problem in the consumer world. I say consume= pay. no consume no pay. It works here. It is different from where you are from but that doesnt make it wrong, just different. I have super low electric bills for my 2400 sq ft house in Mexico, but I am no large user either.

Your bill does not represent what a large house or a commercial property pays. the rates are set so that small users pay very little. Our house in the winter is about $180 dollars for 2 months! In 20 years I have never had a bill for 260 pesos. Do you use electric heat or AC? Do you have an electric fridge. My rates are meaningless as are yours. The discussion is about a trailer park who pays about 3 or 4 pesos a KWH!!! Not less than a peso! $2.00 a day for power is cheap. Mexico has another rate kicker. If you go over a certain amount of usage not only do you go to a higher rate category that high rate remains for about 12 months! Mexico Wanderer can give you the accurate rates. El Poso in Patzcuaro has the right idea. Each site has a 15 amp breaker. That limits your power usage.

The CFE bill just popped thru the gate. 63 days = $261 mx

basico 150 kWh @.809 = 121.35

intermedio 106 kWh @ .976 = 103.45

IVA 224.80 @ 16% = 35.96

That's $130 pesos a month @ 15 pesos to the dollar = less than 10 bucks a month.

Looking back a year, that's pretty much it every month. We stayed in a park in Nayurit where the guy charged 2 US dollars per day for electricity and another $2 for internet. What a rip. Fortunately, that was unusual. Most Mex RV parks seem like a fair deal to me.

We live like Mexicans at our home in Jalisco. Except we have no TV. Lights, refrigertor, washer, bunch of computer chargers, costs us around ten or twelve dollars a month. One time a couple of years ago, it was a little over twenty for the month. We have neighbors with air conditioning and pool filters and heaters. Way more money.

when thre is a flat rate , folks will take advantage of the power. ( most have no Idea how much they consume... ) the same reason modern hotels have sensors that shut the A/C off when doors or windows are open and when it senses no persons in the rooms,

folks think that they need to use as much power as they can since they are paying for it. When truth is they are just driving the rates higher..

The last year we were in business, 2013, we charged RVers 3 pesos pr KW hour, using good meters we had brought from the states. CFE (electric company) charged us as a business about 3.8 pesos per KW hour. We were going to raise our rate to 4 pesos per KW hour the next year. Usage cost is totally dependant on the amount of electricity consumed. Some Rvers had solar panels and paid no more than 50 pesos a month, others were electricity guzzlers, with extra freezers, electric heaters, and more. Some of these bills were upwards of $1000 pesos per month. Meters were the best thing we did for the business. You use it, you pay for it, and we kept our rates low. I know CFE has raised their rates since, but don't know the business rate at present.

For the 6 months we stayed in Lo de Marcos I think our average monthly bill in a 38 ft motor home was around 250-300 pesos. We ran the refrigerator and water heater on gas. The first 2 months we also used some AC. From December to March only fans. Each site had it's own meter. The park only charged whatever rate was charged them without any mark-up.

It all depends if you are a power hog and what the park is going to charge per KWH. Trailer parks are on commercial rates and the winter rates are very high.Over 25 us cents a KWH. But the park can charge whatever they want as they own the meters! Power is the highest cost for any Mexican trailer park. It sure isn't labor or maintenance.
