How do you turn off the residential fridge?

My in-laws just purchased a new 2019 Montana today. They have the residential fridge, which neither of us had before. During the walk through with the tech, they were told there was no way to turn off the fridge. Is that right? They keep it plugged into 50amp service when stored. Is there not a breaker or switch to keep it off and not running when stored?

I'm not in the same state or I would go take a look.

Don't quote me on this but I also have a Haier from Lowes, although its about 5 years old, but it does shut off by simply turning the controls to zero....No on/off switch per/se but it does not cool in this position. Maybe I'll mosey out to the MH and look to see exactly what it says.

In Cooling Off Mode, the refrigerator works but doesn’t make cool air. To cancel this mode, press the Power Freeze and Freezer buttons at the same time for 3 seconds until a “Ding-dong” sound is heard. The unit will now cool.

Seems that holding the Power Freeze and Freezer buttons at the same time for 3 seconds may toggle the cooling.

I have an RF18 and have not tried this but will.

Ours is plugged in outside, behind the panel. If the above does not work, I was thinking of maybe installing this.

And how would you suggest I do that on a model HA10TG31 that only has a single rotary temperature control in the fridge section and a rotary air flow control in the freezer section? Not a digital display or control anywhere. Turning the temp control all the way to "Cold" from "Colder" does not turn off the compressor, it just runs less to raise the temp in the box.

And yes, I have read the manual...

You will notice I stated some cannot be turned OFF. You either unplug or kill the breaker. I posted instructions for an electronic controlled Haier refer. In case you had a similar model. Doug

Think about it? If you buy a digital clock, a microwave oven, a television, a stereo system, DVD player, .... actually ... any new, modern electronic device, is there a switch to "truly" turn them off? There is always a power drain on them; LED lights, remote control access, power-saver modes... but no true "off" on anything any more. The only way to be, somewhat" sure is to unplug it, and then it may have a built in battery back-up ... like every cell phone and computer does. Nothing is truly "shut off" anymore.

It must be too expensive to put circuitry in them to be "off." I have a Walmart special cheap rice cooker that has no on/off switch either. You plug it in, it's on.

I have a 2019 Montana High Country 375FL. It has a residential refrigerator. The refrigerator is Model RF18HFENBSR. Here's the URL to the Samsung User's Manual so you can check it out yourself.

After watching dozens of YouTube videos on this refrigerator and trying everything possible with the actual machine, I finally contacted my RV dealership (Walnut Ridge RV near New Castle, Indiana) and asked them the simple question, "How do I turn it completely off."

Answer: .... and I quote.... "You can't!"

The only way to completely turn it off is to unplug it.

If the refrigerator is in a 2019 Montana, it's probably the same Samsung refrigerator, french doors with freezer on bottom, Ice maker, and may or may not have the water dispenser.

If you have the Samsung in a Montana, you won't have a way to turn it off. My dealer told me... AND I QUOTE again, so I'm not being a "Mr. Know it all or a smart AZZ here"... flip the breaker in the breaker box. (Because the plug is impossible to reach without dismantling the parts that hold it in its cabinet so you can pull it up. There's no panel or access to the plug, no hidden switches, nothing!)

I also asked about the inverter. If the inverter is turned on, the refrigerator will run off the battery when not plugged into shore power as long as the inverter is turned on.

When plugging the camper into shore power, the transfer switch will detect the camper is now plugged into AC shore power and will switch over automatically from battery to shore power. But the inverter will still keep running off the battery. It does not shut itself off automatically because you plug into shore power.

RK911 (the third post on this thread) gave you the correct answer.

FYI, pushing the 2 buttons shuts down the compressor from running, but the refrigerator is not truly "off". That feature is designed for usage in stores when they display these refrigerators. The manual does not recommend using the refrigerator that way.

Mine has a OFF switch but if it didn't I would turn off the breaker or unplug it (mine had a access panel outside).

They use the SAME refers that you buy at Lowes/HD or any appliance retailer. Some CAN be turned completely OFF. Funny thing is, IF you read the operators manual that is FOR the refer it will state how to do that. Some, you can turn the cooling system OFF, but the interior lights will still come on when you open the door. The refer MANUAL will also state if this is the type you have. It is AMAZING how much info you can get if you just READ the appliance owners manual. The REASON the refers must use a specific way of turning them off is simple. IF you have a power outage(this is for residential refers), you want that electronic refer to come back ON when the Power is restored to your house. Doug
