HWH levellers

Prepping my Winnebago for Myrtle beach and I can't get the HWH levellers to go down. The lights on the control box look fine. I am in the process of cleaning all the eleectrical contacts. i put a new battery in the coach.
When I move the front and rear levers then move the center lever either way, the legs do NOT kickdown and the pump just growls.

I have been doing some basic troubleshooting with no luck.

We check in at Myrtle Beach travle Park on the 13th. I am looking to have one of those mobile repair guys come look at it in the campground.

There are always a few of those guys running around the campground. Any recommendations on who to call wwould be appreciated very much!!!!

94 diesel Bounder,

I think thats the same on mine. The control box is definately powered by the chassis but I think the 12V pump is powered by the coach.

If the rain here ever stops I have a lot of tinkering to do.

Thanks!

I put 10 gallons of gas in it and the generator runs fine. The way my driveway slopes, it was too low on gas for the fuel pickup. I think i have everything working again.

Enjoy your time with the family. We are meeting some friends in myrtle beach. Met them there about 6 years ago and have met them there every year since then.

fuzz.....

Glad to hear some of the stuff is now working. I was just tinkering with our motorhome to prepare for a long weekend in Lancaster. Our 3 kids also have RV's so they are all meeting us.

Have a fun & safe trip.

In almost all cases the controller for the levelers is connect to the engine battery. That is why you need the motorhome ignition turned on in order to operate the controller. The rest of the leveling system could be getting its power from the engine battery or the coach battery. That is a wiring option.

Do you have a volt meter? You need to check the 12v output on your converter(charger). Also check the voltage on each of the coach batteries. Before doing any further troubleshooting on the HWH levelers you need to make certain your 12v system is working properly. Are the 12 volt lights inside the coach working? Without the 12v working properly you are going to have trouble running the AC, furnace and refrig circuit boards.

PS...we use Pine Cove Beach Campground when we visit family in West Mifflin & Munhall. Wish we could find full hookups closer.

Hey Bill. I got the levellers working although I'm not really sure how. I cleaned all the connections I could find. I also put a new end on the positive cable from the starting battery and cleaned all the connections at the junction block that it goes to in the battery box. I fully charged all my batteries and it worked again. Since I didn't test it along the way, I have no clue what the problem was. I am tinkering with the generator tonight. Sometimes I have to hit the starter button a bunch of times to get it to turn over. I cleaned the button with electrical cleaner. Hopefully that does the trick. My last issue is the inverter/charger. I don't think its charging the batteries but if I disconnect the batteries, all the 12 volt stuff still works so I would say the inverter part is still working. I hope i will be ok for our trip to myrtle beach next week and then i can have that sorted out when I get home. I am taking a battery charger with me. I may see if i can disable the charger option and still have the inverter work. Nothing is labeled very well. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure the inverter is working but not the charger. When I'm plugged in, all the 12v stuff works ok. I have a voltmeter. One of my coach batteries was only 11. something volts. I had it charging overnight on the 2amp setting. I will check on it when I get home from work and if its charged, i will switch it to the other coach battery. One is 1 year old and the other is 2 years. My starting battery is brand new. I want to start my troubleshooting with all fully charged batteries.

Finding the 12V output wires on the converter may be a challange. I'm guessing they are not well marked.

What about the Onan generator starter. Would it get its power from the coach or starting battery? Im guessing coach.

Thanks for the info!!!

Does anyone know if the levellers get their power from the coach batteries or the starting battery?

I have a bad feeling that my onboard battery charger is not working. It has been plugged in for over a week and one of my coach batteries is almost dead. it's only 1 year old. When I went to start my generator, the starter is not turning over either. I'm 90% sure I have a 12v bug. I hada hrad time getting the dash switch to turn on the coach batteries also........hmmmm.

Thanks Bill. I printed out their manual. There is a lot of info in it but unless you're familiar with electric over hydraulic systems it's confusing. I'm going to tinker with it this weekend and if I can't pinpoint anything, I'm going to schedule a mobile repair guy to come to the campground. My wife gets REALLY cranky if the motorhome isn't level and stable.

I live in Bethel Park, not too far from West Mifflin. There is NO campgrounds handy to the south hills. There is a huge super wal mart there though. You could do some Wal Mart camping!!!!

Have you considered using the info on the HWH website? Click here for a link to the HWH tech manuals. You may find some useful trouble shooting info here. HWH used to offer excellent tech support at their 800#. I have not tried their tech support for about 7 years, but when I did they were a great resource.

Hope this info helps. Have a safe & fun trip to Myrtle Beach.

Bill

PS...wish I could find a campground that is near West Mifflin.
