Hydro Flame 8531 Furnance not working

Hi everyone!

I recently purchased a 1993 Skyline Nomad, 29' Travel Trailer to go Full Time RVing...

I am about to move from NC to OH, and I am sure most people know that it is cold...

Everything in my camper works, except for, the heater...

So, the model is a Hydro Flame 8531, with an automatic igniter.

Here lies the issue...

I go to my heater, flip the switch on the bottom to the on position, and then I wait...

From reading online, I am supposed to wait about 30 seconds for the fan to kick on...

Well? No fan.

No clicking from the furnace I can hear.

No... Anything.

So, before anyone asks, yes, I went to my fuse box (It is located under the stove) and flipped all the breakers, checked all the fuses.. Everything is fine in that department...

But, i'm not getting any response at all from the thermostat, the furnace, nothing...

What's my next step?
  • Verify that there is 12 volts to the furnace.
12 volts to furnace, remove cover to the thermostat. Locate the two wires that go to the furnace. Connect them together. The furnace should start up, then produce heat in 15-20 seconds. if this happens separate the two wires. the furnace should go into cool down mode and shut off in a minute or so. If this all happens you have a bad thermostat.
  • I have taken the cover off of the thermostat, but I did not see two individual wires...

Are you talking about the small copper wires? Or are these decently sized behind my thermostat?

I will go look again, maybe I just missed them the last time I looked.
  • There are small about 18-16 gauge.
What thermostat do you have? Does it control the AC or just the furnace?
You can also do it on the furnace. It should be two blue wires in furnace adjacent to the 12 volt DC supply.
Did you check for 12 volts at furnace?
  • There is an on/off switch on the furnace itself. Make sure it is set to on. If it is, then make sure you have power coming off of it. That's easy step one. After that will require pulling the furnace if you don't have an access panel.
  • You flipped the switch on the furnace to on but is there perhaps a switch underneath the thermostat as well?
