Home wiring is 120 volts and the conductors are very close together so the fields from adjacent conductors, being opposite polarity, mostly cancels itself.

A transmission line of over 100,000 volts has a a much higher field and since the conductors are much further apart the field is not cancelled.

During the 2nd world war there was a 500,000 watt radio transmitter. Folks who lived near by found that stove elements would "speak" and they had difficulty turning off lights.

Why are not these strays being used for good things or products? Maybe, for an emergency situation, you could buy a gadget you could charge your cell phone by unrolling a little wire under power lines.

You could park your RV under power lines in the winter to heat it for free.

If you live a cold area you could build your house using metal beams and let it heat it self.

Maybe you could charge your RV battery by parking under power lines.

The possibilities are almost limitless!

OK how to measure it for those who know.

Using a very high impedance voltmeter, RMS is best, measure the voltage from RV to ground.

Then measure the current from the RV to ground with an ammeter.

This will give you the Thevenin equivalent circuit. From this you can determine the maximum power transfer, the maximum power that you can use from this source.

Will it be megawatts or microwatts? The curious want to know.

In re-reading the OPs description I can see there is more then one elephant in the room. Normally we hear of of these experiences where the RV owner feels and measures a voltage from the RV frame to EARTH Ground. This appears NOT to be the case.

There is no question the presence of "heat" illustrates an "induced" voltage in the light standards. BUT, I do not think a voltage measurement from one end to the other end of a given light standard could produce as much as 15 VAC

For example, in theory, lets assume a 50 foot piece of 0000 AWG wire rated at 225 AMPS. In order to induce 225 AMPS in the wire the end to end VAC would be only about 0.6 VAC. The power dissipated in the wire would be about 125 VA which would heat the wire. The 0.6 VAC would have a very small (heat generating) source impedance.

So, it is feasible to having an induced voltage generate currents in the frame members of the OPs RV AND feel the "mechanical" effects of same.

BUT, to read a voltage of 15VAC with a 10 MegOhm VOM is most likely a voltage generated by a capacitative voltage divider having a very large (harmless) source impedance as opposed 15 VAC with a small (heat generating) source impedence. The latter, using our example, would be 15VAC x 225A or 3375 VA which is about 3x a small space heater.

And they WILL be, from cancer later on down the road. It doesn't zap you dead on the spot. The proof being that they can't run lines next to schools because of the documented cancer clusters. And of course their very own documented magical figure of them being dangerous within 300 feet of any homes.

Although the stray voltage which IS in abundance does kill horses with shoes, cows hooked up to milking equipment and dogs in kennels. All documented. So true that when a power line comes thru, they are not allowed to put them near dairy operations.

When a transmission line is coming to your town......ask for a copy of the 'findings of fact' and see just how many requirements they DO NOT follow when installing transmission lines.

I just love how well the power companies have 'convinced' the public it's all ok.:(
