I'm pretty sure that to get that kind of heat, it would have to be up near the engine. I'm also pretty sure that by the time it made it through the muffler and to the end of the exhaust pipe at the back of the MH, it would have cooled enough that some would settle and become part of the exhaust system. That would be some really foul smelling exhaust!
