- wa8yxmExplorer IIIWhat are you trying to inflate? Those portable units can do a car tire or two, but tend to be less than useful if you are inflating a truck or Motor home 100PSI range tire.
- Harvey51ExplorerI've worn out two of them. I don't think I'll buy another one. So much money for so little battery.
I think the $25 battery that starts the garden tractor in summer might serve again in winter as a jump starter. At the moment the old battery from my daughter's car is standing in the back of my old van whose battery is getting unreliable due to too many starts and too little driving. I charge both of them occasionally. And carry booster cables. - danojenoExplorerAlthough there may be some great combo units out there, I believe you would be better off getting a good jump starter and a separate compressor. The Schumacher DSR Pro series caught my eye online but I haven't seen it in person and it is spendy.
- GoPackGoExplorerAll pickup diesel trucks have two batteries as far as I know (please correct me if I'm wrong). Normally you would not expect both to die at the same time. I have successfully jumped a Duramax with one of the portable battery packs because one truck battery was still good. So I think it's a good idea. It's also surprising to me how many times I've used it to jump co-worker's, family, or friend's cars. Even jumped someone's car at the local grocery store once. Have also used the built-in light when I had to change a tire at night. Very handy things to have around.
I got one from Sears - I think it was the largest one they sell. Got it on sale for a pretty good price, which I don't remember. The thing I like about it is that it has a replaceable battery, so I don't have to buy the whole thing if only the battery dies. Yes, I know it might be cheaper to buy a new one if that happens . . . .
I also carry along a Craftsman 150PSI compressor that's not too large.
Tim - j-dExplorer IIHarbor Freight sells one that looks like the yellow one RoyB showed pix of. Mine's black, current one's red on sale $35 w/coupon. I've used compressor for bike tires and jumpstart for a couple gas vehicles, worked fine. I'm sure it'd assist our V10.
- RJsfishinExplorerIf a battery is stone dead, there may not be a jump starter alive that will start much of anything. Jump starters are designed to help start most vehicles that have a low battery that will not quite get the pistons over the top.
Not that an 800 amp jumper won't start a v-6 w/ a stone dead battery, BC it may do it. But the normal 3-400 amp won't. - mlts22ExplorerI've not found any serious jump starters/air compressors. Instead, I've used a generator, pancake compressor from Wally World (costs a C-note or so), and a dedicated charger. The all in one stuff looks cool, but I've had yet to have it work, other than for charging my smartphone.
- WoodGlueExplorerThis is similar to the one I have. It jumped my truck battery just fine (when I was having trouble before)
Xantrex Jumper & Air Compressor
WoodGlue - 2oldmanExplorer IIYou mean both in one unit?
