- TakingThe5thExplorerI’ve learned the hard way that a lifetime guarantee refers only to the lifetime of the company, and any reorganization can also upset the apple cart. But it does look like a nice tool.
- 2oldmanExplorer IIAdjustable jaw open-end wrench. Crescent is a brand name.
- LittleBillExplorercan't say i love them, the heads are smaller which is nice, but the adjustment takes time, and you have to apply pressure to keep them close.
the set below was like 8 bucks, and are one handed and generally don't round off either.
Clicky - obgrahamExplorerNot so sure. I've had a few "improved" crescent-style wrenches over the years. Most of them didn't work as well as the original. One even had a battery in it to screw the jaw closed. Bah.
I like my Craftsman adjustables. Never the best choice for a wrench, but often the handiest. - mike-sExplorerThose are nothing like a Crescent wrench, which holds its setting without user effort. Those are parallel jaw pliers, and are nothing new. Wiha (#32635) and VBW (PowerGRIP) make similar.
- fj12ryderExplorer IIIYeah, water-pump pliers have their place, but it's in addition to a crescent wrench rather than a replacement.
A well built crescent wrench will have parallel jaws at any position, with little, to no, extra movement of the jaws.
Of course a good mechanic will tell you that there's no place for a crescent wrench in a well equipped toolbox. :) - LwiddisExplorer II"a lifetime guarantee refers only to the lifetime of the company"
And/or the expected "lifetime" of the item. Not your lifetime. - MEXICOWANDERERExplorerAt one time I had a reinforced 7/8" not-quite box end wrench for POL line fittings. 12-point with some of the points missing to pass the wrench across the propane line. It sure lessened the destruction of the brass fitting's corners.
- markchengrExplorer IIThose are called tubing wrenches. Anyone who works professionally with tubing uses those. They come in sizes for all the common flare or compression nuts. Mark.

Vise Grip, Channel Lock, Allen Wrenches-there are other brand names that have become synonymous with a type of tool. When I ask my wife to hand me a tool, I usually use the name that she will associate with a type of tool. I was never politically correct and don't care that these are copyrighted names. If I asked my wife for an L-shaped metal bar with a hexagonal head at each end she would slap me up side the head for not saying Allen Wrench.
