Laurel & Hardy Meets US Customs San Ysidro
Everybody dreads it. Problems waiting in line. Here it goes...
- Entered the line at noon. Advanced 200 meters in a half hour
- Looked at temperature gauge "H"
- Steering heavy lost a belt
- Start engine advance shut off engine:Restart
- 200 yds temp advanced to full"H"
- Steam coming out from under hood
- Fast customs check inspector sympathized
- Remembered an O'Reilleys auto parts store San Ysidro Blvd. Close by
- Drove up to door shut off engine raised hood. Sure as shootin' the serpentine belt was thrown but not broken
- Flopping belt snagged radiator electric fan wires, pulled them loose shorted breakers and fuse
- No tools El Screwed
- Mexican man offers to help for a price. Local mechnic wanted $75 just to show up three hours later
- Had serpentine belt tool in trunk but no 15mm socket. First purchase $6 chinese socket
- Mexican man utterly lost with belt routing
- Checked glove box. Gabriél who R&R'd alt for my reman job did not replace diagram in glove box
- Come to find out all bolts and nuts on alt were finger tight. Tilted alt, threw belt
- Belt route a nightmare
- My Galaxy no workee in USA
- Borrow galaxy from auto parts employee
- Got diagram
- Hard headed $30 helper refused to follow diagram
- Spent 4 hours getting belt back on
- Plus repairing wiring
- The term frustrating day does not measure up.
