LED Awning Strip Lights

I bought a set of SUPERNIGHT (TM) 16.4FT SMD 5050 Waterproof 300LEDs RGB Flexible LED Strip Light Lamp Kit + 44Key IR Remote Controller and they are about 2 feet too long...checked Amazon where I got them and did a google search but I can't find exactly where to cut them. One of the Q and A on Amazon indicated some sort of connector might be necessary, once they are cut? Anyone know where and how they can be cut? Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Do you have any photos of the installation you could post?
  • Success - cut the light strip as suggested. BTW thanks for the picture. The mfg websige and Amazon weren't very clear on where to cut and the mfg website said a connector was necessary if they were cut - which is not accurate. They are installed on the awning and work great. Now, my only complaint is that the remote has to be close to the end of the lights where the reciever is for it to work, but that is no biggie. For $30 I am happy. Thanks to all who helped.

x2!! hopefully it didn't do any damage other than blowing an upstream fuse.
  • Do yours look like the photo above? If so, the cut line goes right across the contacts, so if you touched all the contacts with a metal blade it is likely that just caused a short and that is why the went off. If you see one of those lines every three LEDs, that is what it is - the cut line.

Here is a video that reinforces that.

  • Thanks will try it, if it doesnt work, will send them back per AMAZONS excellent return policy,,,,the instructions that came with these were horrible, on a piece of paper smaller then a playing card, and didn't really tell you anything,,,before I posted yesterday, I put the cutter at that spot but as soon as I put a little pressue on the cutter they went out,,,,perhaps they shouldn't have been on? Will post the result later. Thanks a lot, appreciate it.
  • There should be a "cut line" every 3 LEDs. It is normally at the copper contact points. Something like this...

If you are just cutting some off the end and not planning to use it, you shouldn't need a connector.
  • It says right in the description that you can cut them every 3 LED's. You should see solder pads at every 3 LED's as well.
