Leveler and slide out issue

I have an 04 Winnebago Adventurer. We just got back from a three week trip to MI from Southern CA. No mechanical issues despite the heat wave were currently having. (123 deg f. in CA, AZ border!)Except one.
I have hydraulic levelers and slide outs and upon our second night out, stopping in Amarillo TX for the night, I went to put down the levelers and they hesitated, The slide outs did the same thing, went out a little then stopped. Hesitated, stopped. Then they all quit working. Levelers partially down and slide outs partially out.
After 30 minuets of frantically searching the manual for ways to at least get my compartments and levelers back in and searching for the fuse. No idea where that is. They all started working normally.
We continued on our trip, three more nights with no further issues. That is until the return trip a week later. 2nd night out same campground, same exact issue! This time I let the coach sit for about 30 mins. and all systems worked fine.
Any ideas why this happened? Has anyone had similar experience. I suspect this is a heat related issue. The thing is, It was hot all over the country, why just this one campground? Are these systems prone to heat related issues?
Thanks for the help.

I had similar intermittent issues with the slides/levelers on my 2004 Itasca. Sometimes would work (both slides and levelers) fine, other times it would do nothing. Press the button(s) 10,12,15 times, nothing, then suddenly the next time it would work perfectly.
Culprit was some corrosion on the fuses in the control unit (behind the clear plexiglass) at the hydraulic valve control assembly. Pulled the fuses, cleaned up the contacts, reinstalled them...no issues since.

Thanks for that. Another place to look! I didn't know there were fuses in there. The problem for me is access to the unit. I can see the clear plexiglass but getting to it is another story. It's buried pretty deep.

  • Yes fluid level is good. Pump just kept starting and stopping. Then just stopped all together. After a rest, it started working normally.
It just amazed me that the problem only happened at the one campground on the way out and again on the return trip. 5000 mile round trip. I guess just a strange coincidence.
As ScottG pointed out it acted like a thermal overload breaker,or a sticking solenoid . Still not sure if the system even has a thermal overload let alone where it could be located. I also will check the supply wires and ground for tightness.
    Thanks again guys.

Wouldn't hurt to check the fluid level in the pump reservoir. Check with jacks up and slides in.

While it would not hurt, it is NOT the cause of the OP's problem. Low fluid or lack of fluid will not cause the pump to not operate. Doug

It's probably not the problem but if he said the pump stopped running then I missed that.

  • Thanks for that Scott. Looks like I have some troubleshooting to do.
At least now I have a couple places to look!
I hate that feeling of wondering if they are going to fail every time I go to use them.
  • Sounds like an auto-resetting breaker doing its thing.
Could be it's getting weak and the heat is pushing it over the edge.
They're cheap so I would find it and replace it.
  • Thank you for the fast reply! I will check that out. I seem to remember reading a similar solution in the trouble shooting section of the manual. I was thinking at the time, "naw couldn't be that.
  • Tighten the Positive and Negative cables at the coach batteries. Then check and make sure the battery cables AT the HWH slide/jack pump are tight. The same pump operates both the Jacks and the Slides. Those 2 items are not really interconnected other than the HWH pump. IF the cables are tight, then I would suspect the PUMP motor solenoid on the HWH pump assbly. Doug
