Lippert Slideout Gear Pack Wheels

I'm not having a problem with my slide but I was under the trailer inspecting the slide mechanicals. It's a Lippert motor/gear driven slide. I noticed that the wheels that run on the right side of the slide have a groove wearing in both wheels.
The left side of the slide wheels are wearing evenly with no grooves.

I inspected the ram the the wheels roll along and don't see anything that could be causing the wear. I suspect the wheels will wear over time but the groove seems more than normal wear. The slide is 8 feet and the trailer is 3 years old.

Those grooves are NORMAL. I would NOT replace the Gear Pack for this supposed problem. The "grooves" are where the rollers run on the Steel Mechanism. I would purchase a replacement set of Gear Packs as the Teeth will eventually shear a tooth or 2. Better to have the gear pack and repair than need it and you have to wait a week or 2 for the part. From you picture it looks like the worn area is the only part that is touching the ram. Are the wheels centered or would they be moved toward each other if they were reversed? If the wheels are not offset there might be a spacer missing.

I put a 2x2 about 2 feet long on top of a bottle jack and under the rack of the gearpack you are removing. It doesn't take much, just get the weight off the attaching bolts to pop it out, or in.

I don't have an answer for why the abnormal wear but 3 years is not long. Mine is 13 years & literally 100s of cycles & only broken a couple of drive shaft pins. I carry a couple of extras now so the problem is solved.

Lifting the room to change out that gear pack looks like an interesting exercise involving big wooden blocks & a bottle jack.

They are simple to replace. BUT, You have to LIFT the room up to relieve pressure on the Gear Pack. I have NEVER had a gear pack fail other than the Gear Teeth have broken off. Never a Failure of the rollers whether Nylon or steel. Doug

I saw the heavy duty gear pack kit. That will be the way to go when I replace them.
Did you do the work yourself?

I replaced mine with steel rollers, they called the gear pack a heavy duty gear pack. I have a very large slide and my rubber wheels had collapsed.
