Low ECC Fluid Light

I have a 2006 Bounder with a CAT 300 (C7)turbo desiel engine. I have had the RV sitting in RV spot for about a year and am ready to move on in about a month.

I start up and run the engine (and generator)every month. The generator decided to not start and I have determined I need to replace the house batteries, which I plan to do this weekend.

When I run the engine, I now get a "Check Engine Light" and soon a red "Eng Prot" light comes on with a "EEC Fluid Low" message in the computer.

I have spoken with the local engine shop and they say to start it up and see if it will drive to the shop (about 8 miles). I have heard that the red light may shut the engine down and I don't want to be stopped on side of road. Some people say that the issue may be from the low batteries I have in the coach.

Thoughts?
  • original OP here.

Turns out no computer codes and nothing logged. There was no leaking at the water pump or hoses. No fluid in the oil and nothing being spit out of the exhaust. But fluid was down about a gallon in 6 months.

The determination is the radiator cap needs replacing - also carry a gallon of coolant with a long funnel to replace any lost fluid and watch it.
  • The Check Engine Lite - will only derate the engine, not shut it down unless you hit the 226 degrees temperature, low oil pressure in the HEUI. And by the way, did you check the coolant level in the radiator/recovery tank first? Because your post stated "Fluid Low".

By the way ECC = Engine control code
  • Your title says "ECC" and your post says "EEC". Which one is it and what is it? :?
