Magnetic Screen Door, Is it feasible?

I have been thinking about replacing my truck camper screen door with a magnetic screen door. The magnetic one would eliminate the hassle of sliding the panel to open or lock the outer door. The one that I have in mind is made by Vive Comb Corp and is shown here Magnetic Screen Door. The price is $13.65.

The screen door frame and door are both made from aluminum so the magnets won't stick to them. The door jamb frame is 26 X 70. This door is 39 X 82.
1) Can the screen be cut to the 70" length?
2) Can one side of the screen be cut narrower and the Velcro sewn back on?

Who has experience with this type of door? What are your thoughts, opinions, and comments? All discussion is very welcomed.

Could you just add velcro where the magnets would go on the doorway?? If you have a $5 and below store near you they have some for $5. You could try the cheaper version to see if it would work... I have used the magnetic screen door and garage door magnetic screen door and wrapped it around my pop up canapy for a screen and it has worked really well for 2 seasons.

We have had one that had to be seriously modified due to the coach's shape, and it has survived about 8 seasons now. Because of the coach's tumblehome, I had to put velcro all the way down both sides. It was a complete success until the plastic trim on the door edge began breaking up due to old age. I bought new trim and double sticky stuff to use for the velcro and we should be good for a long time.

And yes, the dogs love it too.

Interestign thread.. A consideration.. Dogs can open teh magnetic doors. so can cats if they are the wandering kind (Mine is not but he's ....odd...kind of like his pet human).

We have had one on our trailer for 8-10 years. It's wearing out and we have already purchased a new replacement that has the magnets sewn into the fabric instead of the cheap plastic cased magnets of the original. I think I'm into the new one for $20.

Since we added the mesh door we converted the regular screen door to a storm door.

Sort of like that---the inside door in the 5er that swung back and forth as a bathroom door or a hall-way door, came with a catch to hold it closed when a hall-way door. This catch would not line up when we parked due to trailer twisting while being levelled, so I changed the catch for a wider spacing magnet set-up like some cupboards have.

You just add more cupboard door magnets as needed for a bigger door. You can get them at Home Depot or wherever.

Should work great with a screen door. Good idea!

On a $13.65 screen door I think rare earth magnets would be too strong.
The screen would probably tear before the magnets released.

That said, I think the screen door is a good idea if you have the right magnets.

If the magnets are too weak, you may be able to beef them up. There are rare earth magnets online that have holes in them -- use a small screw to attach the magnet to the aluminum frame. Then mount a thin piece of steel (like plumber's pipe strap) to the place where the magnet will touch.

I have not done this with a screen door, but I have done it with other projects in my woodshop. The magnets are very powerful.

We had one in our S&B a few years ago and it lasted about 3 weeks and then the magnets wouldn't hold securely. It was a waste of $$. They may be better now.
