IN many parks the voltage is a bit shy of 120. (I've seen shy of 90) and the autoformer will "Boost" the voltage so the compressor can start properly.. The your choice of Soft or Hard start (I'm told hard is the proper term) kit also reduces the load on the electrical system at compressor start and further improves the situation.

I run both and they work well together. The Autoformer continues to boost while the compressor is running. if the voltage drops too low the compressor can stall. especially in high heat conditions like we have had lately. And parks with low voltage issues.. More likely when more folks are using A/C as they do in the high heat conditions we have had recently

now it's time for COFFEE because there is no life before COFFEE and it's done brewing.

I have a Hyper Engineering Sure Start and will report this...

I helped my neighbor convert a V nose 12x8 cargo trailer into a RV with a air conditioner, and he used a 2500w LF Pure Sine, pass-thru inverter/charger... We both have the exact same model Coleman air conditioner with the sole exception that his is new and mine has the Hyper Engineering Sure Start...Both campers are wired alike to allow the air conditioners to run (for short periods only...) off the inverters (i.e. via batteries)...

He wanted to run a ‘brutal’ inverter test. So while on shore power, and running his air conditioner (compressor ON) we pulled the S/P cord just to see if the transition over to the inverter (via ATS) would be seamless, and his inverter then alarmed and stumbled under this sudden, highly inductive compressor load, and his air conditioner momentarily shut down (for about 8-10 sec) before a full recovery - obviously not seamless, nor should this be considered a real-world test...This same test using other appliances produced results where the transition was actually quite seamless...However, not so much with the air conditioner...

Then, we plugged into his inverter a 100’ 12 AWG extension cord ran over to my driveway and ran the very same extreme S/P ‘cord pull’ test (same exact A/C unit, but mine fitted with the Sure Start), and the result was quite surprising to me to say the least - after several same test trials (compressor running) the air conditioner never once skipped a beat (compressor unaffected!), and his inverter never alarmed, not even once...

I report this because in my mind this is apples-to-apples near proof positive that the Sure Start actually works (or does something for the better)...I can only assume that the Easy Start (equivalent) would produce this similar result, though I don’t recommend needlessly trying this...

FWIW, Both Air Conditioners were a Coleman Mach 1 P.S. (power saver) 11k btu, and fans were set to Low speed...Both compressors were running at all times...

Microair spins the compressor up slower, and therefore you no longer "hear it".

Yes, I expected to be happy.

Without the microair, and with the autoformer the red overload light on the inverter charger stayed OFF.

But with the microair, and with the autoformer the red overload light
came ON.

Also, the "nature" of the compressor motor spin up changed. Without microair I could "hear" the compressor motor getting a boost in speed, as the autoformer clicked in. With the microair that no longer happened.

Hence my disappointment.

As within 24 hours I'll be making my first "hot air" trip and I'll be at the 50 amp pedestal that I did the initial testing on, I'll be observing if the tweaking of the autoformer does what I hope.

I may do some testing with the generator, too.

My Sola Basic used to cut in before the air conditioner had finished spinning up to speed. This would happen even if I was the only user on a 50 amp shore power supply (my RV is 30 amps).

After the microair was installed, that boost in voltage no longer happened. I've now tweaked the autoformer to cut in sooner--so hopefully that will get me back to the way things were. I will be testing that later today or tomorrow at the latest.

Several folks here have put their autoformer between the generator and the RV. It appears to help. I'll possibly be testing this in the near future. But feel free to try it--it may be just the ticket you need.

I have an autoformer and wondered about starting a 13,500 a/c off it.
I just replace3d the a/c unit. My old one would start and run on it but, not cycle and restart.
I have the Wen 2000 inverter. It has a much shorter period of overload than a Honda etc, like maybe a second or 2, but not enough for the a/c to restart.
I couldn't justify a couple hundred bucks for a microsoft and then running the genny at almost max output continuously.
I will probably end up buying another genny for @ $4oo and parallel them. Just wondering how the autoformer figures in.
