Need a scaffolding idea

My camper is similar & all of the ideas everyone has come up with won't work or aren't safe. In my case the only thing I have found that is safe and usable is 12' wide scaffolding on wheels. That is not the answer you wanted due to storage issues. I am fortunate to be able to borrow it when needed. It is wide enough to roll past the mirrors and access any part of the nose. Ladders will not work unless you have 6' arms.

I use a 10 foot 3-legged aluminum orchard ladder. With three legs you can kindof straddle one corner of the front - on both the driver's side and the passenger's side - because the back support leg can be spread out much further from the two main front legs than with a conventional ladder.

This works pretty good to reach each half of the front cabover area, one-half of it at time. Here's what an orchard ladder is:

Yes, Loggenrock, I did consider the two-landder-and-a-plank trick, but considered that a guarantee of a broken hip or worse. At my age I can't risk that.

Figured someone would bring this up. I bought one used, from a sheet rocker. Slow business, and an unnecessary tool. I use the two planks as a stable work surface for lots of things. Folded and stored it takes up less room than a ladder. It, also, allows you to work a wider distance than using a step ladder. Should be able to find one easily in a local want ads or Craigslist, or check out pawn shops, god tool source.

2 similar 6' stepladders and a 2 x 12 x 12'. One stepladder on each side of the nose - run the plank between them (not on the top, thru a step). Just sit on the plank and scrub away! This isn't an OSHA operation...! ST

I sure hope you are ready for this suggestion. I know it works because I have done it. Before the depression I did a lot of special boat work and there were several times that I need to work where there was no room for a scaffold from below and I couldn't reach where I needed just hanging over the edge. Since it was only going to be a couple of minutes, I had a heavy friend sit on the cabin top behind me and hold my ankles. Yes, It was strange working upside down and I did have a short-lived headache, but the job could be billed.

How about a local equipment rental for a man lift?

Bakers scaffolding from Harbor Freight. On sale for sometimes $159. Best investment I ever made. No more ladders. You can wash and wax your rig and with the casters you can pull yourself around without getting off. I.ve folded two of them up and stuck them in the basement of my coach. Great to take to Nascar.
