New Raptor Solar Installation

We traded in our old 5th wheel toyhauler in August for a new Raptor 332TS. I had 420 watts solar on the old trailer and the dealer wanted to keep it.. of course. Here is what I put on the new toyhauler:
1. 2-250 watt ReneSola PV panels, Voc-37.4 V, Vmp-30.1 V, Isc- 8.83 A, Imp- 8.31 A, Module type: JC250M-24/Bb
2. 27 feet (one way) #6 welding cable
3. Domestic roof mounts
4. Rogue 3024 Charge controller.

The attached photos are the completed job. It has been too cloudy to do any performance tests but I did see 12 amp charge rate even under heavy clouds. This was when I first turned it on and the batteries were at 12.5V

This is the 5th toyhauler.

Since they were free to me, I used domestic roof mounting rails.

Here are the specs on the PV panels

All mounted. That rear AC is further away than it looks, shading shouldn't be a problem.

Rogue 3024 MPPT charge controller. I had this on my last RV and kept it when I traded it in.

Rooftop connections. I used "Y" connectors I found on Amazon to parallel the panels. I also used a screw connector from Electrical supply to join the #10 from the panels to the #6 going to the controller. The connector was sealed with heat shrink.

This is a 20 amp inline fuse I got from a solar installer.

I passed the roof wires down the Bath Vanity vent and exited the PVC in the vanity where I dropped it down into the pass through storage where all of my electricals are. I am pleased with how this came out and how easy it was compared to my first installation.

So a new buyer should be ok, since Mr Wiz is doing ok with his C-xx on his mess of 12s.

I think that MPPT might get overloaded for amps at times with the two 24s (and clip to be safe when it does), but you will be way better off with that controller most of the time, which is what counts.

(As discussed in the-- ISTR-- Morningstar? - blurb on over-sizing the array a bit)

    Good move.

BFL13 Yeah, that C35 is a great PMW controller for around 100. Rating wise it would have been a better fit for my 500 watts. I just like the Rogue display, logging and MPPT better. Too bad Rogue isn't doing much these days.
  • You should see 30A. I've seen 49A with 750W about 1 PM in AZ with house loads since the batteries did not need that amount. This was a test since bulk charging amps should be lower for my flat mounted panels.

  • I think if it clips it will be at 30 amps. I doubt it will ever see it but won't know till next May or June.
  • Lovely. Now I want to upgrade even worse!! Please let us know if there is any clipping at the 500 watt level.

  • Nice!

Why didn't the Dealer want the controller too?
