No TV Reception

I need help in figuring this out. When the tv is hooked up the the rv antenna and booster is on of off, I don't pickup any channels. But if I disconnect the coax from the tv, the tv will pickup channels. When I plug the coax back in, I loose the channels. Any ideas?

First off, you have been a member long enough to know you are not asking questions specific to your problem. Why was the cable disconnected, what antenna do you have, have you checked out the cable by taking a voltage reading at the antenna connection, do you have the manual for the system? If you replaced or an old cable it is not uncommon for a whisker from the shielding to short out the cable. Is the system wired correctly, did you look at the manual to make sure?

Get the manual and follow the installation and trouble shooting instruction, then if you have a problem come back here and someone will have an answer for you.

I am curious what you are referring to? The OP is listed as a new member. Also, what do you mean that he is not asking question specific to his problem? I am confused (not a new situation for me!).

  • I had a similar problem and took the wall plate off that the coax is on only to discover it was not even hooked up to the other end of the wall plate - and it was too short to make it work. Had the dealer fix it when I took it back in for other things after we bought it.

It is not common that I can improve on what Satellite Bill types. this is one of the Common occasions. What he said. Shorted coax. is the most likely explanation. There are a few others too but keep with Bill. he's good.
  • Ditto to Bill.satellite. I had a like problem on a new TT and the problem turned out to be a bad 12 VDC connection at the booster.
  • I should also add a more likely possibility. It's quite likely that the coax you are connecting has a short. Could be a screw hit the cable or there's a bad connection at one end or the other. Has this ever worked? What kind of antenna and what's your RV?
  • Did you rerun the "Air" channel scan on the tv after connecting the antenna cable?
