Noisy propane regulator

This weekend my project was to add a quick connect for our new Camp Chef (awesome stoves btw) Anyway after I finished connecting the propane back up for kicks I flipped the tank switch (manual changeover) on the regulator to the tank on the far side and when a gas appliance is in use the main regulator makes a humming/whistling noise. Flip to the door side tank and it doesn't do it. This is our second season with this unit and we rarely use gas as we never dry camp and were using the door side tank until I tested it today.
So bad regulator?

Dan
  • Propane cylinder on 'far side' (roadside) is connected to step down regulator (30#) that feeds propane across front area of 5vr to changeover regulator on 'curbside')

Curbside cylinder feeds changeover regulator with a much higher pressure then far side
Roadside 30# (if the regulator is working properly)
Curbside 150#---250# (depends on ambient air temps)

1st stage drops cylinder pressure down to 15#
2nd stage drops that 15# down to 0.4 psi (11"WC)

Check if the roadside regulator is also chattering/whistling
  • Thanks guys, apparently nothing new. Never had this in any of our other units

  • Mine does that when the furnace is running perfectly normal. When it whistles you know your tanks are not empty.

    X2.
The one on our last rv did that for a while and eventually I either learned to ignore it or it just stopped making the noise.

It will do it with even the smallest amount but will get louder the more I use. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about just kind of annoying.
