Non stop fan on AC

We currently have 2 campers, both camplite, a tt and a tc. On both of our campers the fan on the AC runs all the time. If the AC is on then the compressor will come on and then shut off but fan stays on. Hmmm....why? Is it cheaper? Both of the ACs are Dometic, one a 9200btu and the other a 13.? In the tt it sure is loud. Inquiring minds want to know if anyone can tell me. Thanks!

Some are made that way. THANK the folks who did it. That is how mine work no matter how they were designed.. WHY.

Roof monted A/C's are NOISY and more so if not ducted (mine are ducted) but if the blower runs all the time your brain swiftly filters the sound.. and the blowers "mask" the compressors.. So I actually have to LISTEN to the one in my bedroom (The other one it depends on when I last cleaned it) But if I set the fan on AUTO (only the bedroom has that feature) I will know when it kicks in.. BIG TIME.
  • That drove me nuts on my non-ducted as well. I installed a new control unit so I could control it with the thermostat. Toughest part was running the thermostat wire to the unit as mine was not ran from the factory.

The uTube vid below is essentially what I did except I used a standard battery powered house thermostat that I had already installed. Because I used a house thermostat I only have 1 fan speed though so I chose low.

  • My first 2 TT's were not ducked, and the air conditioners ran constantly. My 3rd TT was ducked and it cycled on-off. My current 5er has 2 AC, both ducked and they both cycle on-off. Because we have one in the bedroom area, I usually leave it in fan high mode. The cooling cycle kicks on and off, but the fan blows all the time. I have a hard time sleeping when the fan is constantly kicking on and off. Plus, s stated above, it drowns out noises.
  • My a/c in both the truck camper I had and the two travel trailers are not ducted.
The fan runs continuously and the compressor cuts on and off. No auto fan.

My fivers all had ducted air with auto and that sure made a difference.
  • Thanks guys! Our fiver was ducted so now I know why. I do find that I sleep better with the noise because I don't hear anything from the outside. However, watching tv can be a bite. Knowledge is power!

Thanks Rgtopda, but there is no auto fan on AC. On the ACs there is on, off and where you can adjust the temp of the AC.

Well then what you see is what you get.

I had to replace one of my A/C units and the new one is like yours.
But at least mine has high and low fan speeds.
  • That's how the non-ducted a/c (direct controls, no remote thermostat) was on my old trailer. The one in my motorhome is ducted and the thermostat has an auto fan switch on it that will shut off the fan between coming cycles.
  • Thanks Rgtopda, but there is no auto fan on AC. On the ACs there is on, off and where you can adjust the temp of the AC.
  • I can put up with "loud" a lot easier than "loud/silent/loud/silent/..." cycles. So my fan stays on. My thermostat has a switch for that though if I want to change it; I think most do.
  • Make sure the thermostat is on auto fan...Mine was doing it until i put on my cheater glasses and saw i did not have it on auto.
