I have a Norcold refrigerator. Suddenly It cannot be turned on with either Electricity or propane. It is possible that when I washed the motor home, I may have sprayed some water into the outside reefer compartment door and possibly shorted something. The reefer was not on at the time. Inside this outside compartment door there is a small black box with several wires connected to it. There is a small red light on the box that is illuminated. Unplugging any of the wires going into it turns off the light. Plug them back in and the red light illuminates. From inside the motor home, the circuit breaker is ok. Pushing the on/off button doesn't do anything.Any ideas as to what went wrong and/or what to do to reset it? Thanks so much.

The fridge probably needs 12V DC to operate the electronics in either gas or AC mode. Is your battery connected and charged?

Take the cover off and check the fuses underneath before going any farther.

look at the back of the fridge for a black box it will have a red led light on. You got that wet and it tripped locking it out.

Thanks for the responses. Newman Funtime you mention that it locked out due to moisture. Is there another way to fix the lock out because in reading Corley 05s link, the magnet isn't working. Thanks

I got it fixed. Tried the magnet but apparently I used toosmall of a magnet and took the advice of Newman Fulltime to go out and get a stronger one. Bought one that can lift up to 65 pounds and is quite light and only 3 3/4 inches diameter. Two in a pkg for $4.50 from Harbor Freight. I held one of the discs where you guys told me to put it for 5 seconds and presto, it worked and the red light went out. The reefer works normally now

So thanks as always to all of the members of this forum to take the time and respond to my problem. "All's well that ends well."

It is a version E. I am headed to Harbor Freight to buy a heavy duty magnet and try that. Only magnet that I have used is a 1-2 pound lift unit. Am convinced that I need the bigger "gun." Will advise later.

Several said it took a few seconds of holding it in once place before they heard the click (not sure why). How patient have you been with it?

Some have needed a new box. Being a recall safety box I understand the part is supposed to be free.

Here's the latest. The magnet didn't do the trick. Used it all over the box to no avail. I did unplug the 12v input and out put from the little box and connected them and the reefer works. So the problem is the box I think and either needs to be replaced or to find a way to reset it.

That BOX with RED LED light is the Norcold Recall Safety Device.

It trips ALL DC to fridge when activated......either due to High-High Temp Sensor (700*F), due to 'glitch' or from getting it wet

Look at info sticker on circuit board ...Version 'D' is older version and some do/most don't reset using a strong magnet.
If 'D' call Norcold Customer Support and set up appt. to have Version 'E' installed

If 'E' then it is too wet to reset...use blow dryer on AIR and dry it off
Then try reset using magnet back/forth across face above LED

Did you try the magnet in the upper right corner as opposed to just the upper center? I found another site saying that worked for several users (some who washed their RV and caused the problem).

Try the magnet all over the box with the LED and with the fridge turned off when you do.

Some say it takes a few seconds of holding it there to hear a click.

Sidecar flip did you mean look for fuses in the access door outside or pulling of the paneling at the base of the front of the reefer? No fuses in the former.
