Norcold refrigerator warming up...

My neighbor's fridge is warming. I have a different kind but I suggested she try it on gas so she did but no change. What else could be the culprit? We checked the fuses and breakers. Circuit board? Anything else? Can anyone tell me how to use a multi-meter to check to see if her board is working? -- power in, power out?

Thanks much...
  • Is the flue hot?
Are the lights (if any) on
Does the fridge light come on?
    Is the battery charged?
  • She's not home but when I saw it the lights were on, the menu was working, she could set the temp to '9'. The coils on back are cold. But she may have turned it off. There was a hum to it before, from the back, when the temps inside were rising.

Are you talking about the coils inside the refrigerator or the ones on the back of it? When on gas can you hear/see/feel the burner is on?

  • The hum was probably a fan. If it's in a slideout (or it's just very hot outside) then that fan is critical. If it isn't working then it needs to be repaired.
  • It could be the control board. Ours would not run on gas when our board went bad, but electric was fine. If it doesn't stay cold on either, it could be the thermistor which is like a thermostat.
  • On electric the fridge is at 52 and the freezer is 32. So it's cooling a little. Does that tell you anything? The fridge is not in a slideout. It's been in the mid-50's during the day and mid-40's at night (outside -- air temp).
  • 5 winters ago 4 MH's with the norcold fridge had a warming issue. The fix was turning it off for 4 days or go on the road and let the road shake up what was plugged. some using a rubber hammer tapped the coils as I remember. 4 months sitting for all 4 rv's was what the tech said the caused the problem.

Ah...interesting. She's been living in this rig all summer, no breaks...and she's dug in so no traveling ahead. Think we should tap the coils?
  • it might be plugged up ?
or it could be leaking ammonia

    any ammonia smell ?

any yellow powder any where ?

tapping or vibrating it, might help if its plugged

dug in, not going any where
replace it with a 120v residential, that fits the opening
cost less than repair or replace
