Older ClassB

I recently bought an 89 Dodge based Merry Miler. It has one house battery and a charger (According to the literature that came with it).

The Van is in good shape both inside and out. The only issue I have is the 12 volt lights will not work unless Generator is running. I would like to modernize it with two good batteries and a new charger. Any recommendations?
  • Thank you for the responses. Perhaps a member knows of a dealer in the North Texas area that does installs? I have Googled, Yahoo'ed and found a few but none close.. Thanks ..Bob J.
  • Look high and low for a 'battery shut-off' switch. It's common on older units with a single-stage 'battery boiler'-type charger, to permit leaving them plugged in without damaging the house battery.

Some use a relay and small switch on the monitor panel, some use a large 'clunk' direct switch in the main house battery lead, often near the floor.

  • First...check the house battery

Do the lights work when the van engine is running?
Do they work when its plugged into 120v?
