Oman 7500 Diesel Generator Issues

Please tell me this isn't going to cost me my first born. I've got an Oman 7500 quiet diesel generator the other night the output dropped to 2-4 volts or whatever it is from 14 I believe it normally does. The generator itself seems fine, well it sounds fine, apparently something isn't fine. I honestly don't even think it's generator I'm thinking it's the inverter. My batteries aren't charging either.I'm not by any stretch of the word a mechanic, however I'm pretty good at following directions. If anyone has any suggestions I'd be eternally greatful. If not I'm going to have to find me a mobile tech around here everyone that services these things are telling me there's like a 4-6 week wait just to get me in to see what the problem is.
Thank you,

Trouble shooting an intermittent electrical problem by "giving it a tune up and go over everything" may end up being VERY expensive.

Much smarter to go through the trouble shooting tree for exactly what did/did not work and then address THAT.

Well now I'm just dumbfounded. I hooked my coach to shore power to make sure everything was working correctly there, it was. So I unhooked shore power and restarted the genny and it's like nothing was ever wrong everything is working as it should,I'm so confused it doesn't make any sense to me. My son took pictures of all my equipment for me he's at work so as soon as he gets the time to send them to me I'll post them. Maybe someone will be able to tell me what happened. I'm going to call out a mobile tech and have him give it a tune up and go over it to make sure everything is fine. I will post the results hopefully this forum thread will be helpful to someone else some day. Thank you all for everything. Cody & Jodi Cooper

Have him/you read this thread and answer the questions asked-- will make it easier for us to help you.

Most require no tools or skill-- just "what is working and what is not".

Converters or inverters/chargers are not that easy to troubleshoot even for professional electricians.
I think you have 2 choices right now.
1 hook up battery charger to your batteries and see if the inverter will work at full charge
2. call RV technician familiar with converters.

I'm going to take some pictures of the equipment I have. It's frustrating that I don't understand this stuff and I feel like an idiot thank all of you for your help and suggestions you have no idea what this means to me. These pictures may take a bit as I am disabled and don't move so well these days my son will be here today if nothing else I can have him get the pictures for me. Oh by the way I'm not sure if I put this information on my initial profile or not but I have a 2005 40' Coachman Sportcoach Elite 401 TS

your diesel generator puts out 110v
just like shore power, the utility company at home

it is the charge converter or ( inverter-converter combo ) does the battery charging

battery voltage dropping means NO charging
blown fuse ?
bad unit ?
tripped circuit breaker in the breaker box OR on the unit ?
equals NO 110 to the device so it does not have power to charge your batteries

we are not clairvoyant , we can NOT see your equipment

you need to answer the exact questions, not in direct guestimations

does your air conditioning run, your MW work

your answer about (1) item plugged in
sounds like you tripped a breaker and the (combo-inverter-ccharger) is now using invert mode to make 110 on the outlets, and it is using your batteries instead of charging them

please post
make model year of RV
make model of inverter or converter
I can explain it to you.
But I Can Not understand it for you !

I think he was answering my question about the outlets
Quiet Pack has a generator inside and uses an electronic governor to maintain voltage and frequency. So, no Inverter / Charger.

Did the Gen set run the loses power / or did it not have power when you started it? Did you see if you have a ATS, automatic transfer switch?

Since you stated your batteries are not charging is this on shore power also or just generator? Have you tried shore power?

Have you checked the circuit breaker on the gen set?

The bigger power is, not knowing what Rv you have, Inverter / Charger installed in the Rv. So, there is nothing most of us can do, because we cannot do any research on your Rv. No you can logon to IRV2 and search the motorhome specific forums.

What does "Oh and yes the plugs work fine when the genny's running as long as you only have one little thing plugged in" mean

Just once, I would like to read someone has the same things as we do, and have had it 50 years, change the oil and filter regularily and it runs better today than when new. ๐Ÿ™‚
I guess we can blame the China syndrome. Buy something and guess if it will still work when you get it home or for how long when you do, and always buy two to start out.

I checked all the wires I could see on both the genny and the inverter nothing seemed loose, cracked, broke or unplugged. Oh and yes the plugs work fine when the genny's running as long as you only have one little thing plugged in

Actually, here is what I would do:

Turn on a roof A/C. Turn on the other roof A/C. If both work, you know that both legs of the generator output are working. Checking just an outlet gets into "is the inverter powering it or is the generator".

If answer to above is no, turn OFF and back ON, both on-generator breakers.

If answer to above is yes, turn off and back on the breaker in your main 120 VAC breaker box for the inverter/charger. If no joy, check voltage at the inverter charger (or if you are not safe working around 120 VAC, have someone qualified do it).

Do the 110 volt outlets work when the genny is running?
If so it is not the generator.
Probably your inverter/charger
Do you know where it is located?
Model?
what you can do first is check the wires for loose ones.
