Onan 4KYFA26100K GAS

I may have committed the mortal sin of RV genset ownership. I got busy over the summer and didn’t exercise the toy hauler genset for a couple of months.
It tried to start once or twice and ran only for a second or two before dying.

Now it won’t start and smells of bad gas or maybe flooded with fuel.
I have it in storage and can’t get to the access door until I pull it out.

I always add stabil when I fill up and exercise it monthly. (until now)

An RV repair shop told me I need to replace the carburetor ($150.) because the neoprene plunger sticks or swells making repairs or rebuild a non-option.

Any thoughts or ideas before I start on this?

Best thing you can do. You may need to remove the carb take it apart and soak it in seafoam for a few days then reassemble. I did this to one and it has been running fine for a year on my friends toyhauler.

  • Mine will from time to time after sitting for months without being properly stored..... take several tries before it runs. There will be many starts and run for couple of seconds then dies. Eventually 5 or 6 tries it will stay running but may die after a minute...then restart and it continues to run.

You do need to wait after a couple of tries to prevent flooding.
