Onan Dies When Moving

Generator runs fine when stopped but as soon as the Van moves it shuts down. Any ideas?
  • I haven't had a chance to check the oil, but I filled the fuel tank before I parked the Van. Probably oil, at least I hope it's something simple...And cheap.
  • How much fuel in your gas tank. If it's low and you accelerate the pick up tube for the genset could be sucking air for a moment and possibly stall the generator.
  • I would also check the connectors to the control-board, and look for a loose ground wire. A bad connection can vibrate while moving and kill power to the generator.
  • Onan Microlite 2800.. I will check the oil again. thanks.
  • I agree. The oil level is marginal and when you move the van, the oil sloshes away from the oil sensor and kills the generator.

    Check your oil level.
