onan not cranking

onan Emeral Plus 4000, in my 1998 class C won't crank. It was starting and running until a few weeks ago and I was trying to start it and it was cranking, but would die I believe maybe I tried this too often and maybe something happen to the starter. fuel is full, batteries fully charge. I can hear the solenoid trying put starter not engaging. I can't get to the starter it seems without removing the onan. it is on rails with 4 bolts holding it in. Can anyone tell me how difficult it is to remove the onan from the coach and if you did, how to go about it. If I can get to the starter I probably can repair it myself. There is a shop where I live that can repair the starter for $35.00. Any help or suggestions please? And I gorgot to mention I have already cleaned positive and negative cables. Thanks

Could be bad (corroded) battery connections. I would try to jump start the genset with your tow car and battery cables, if it turns over I would check every connection. If it does not turn over I would then look at the starter.

not sure if this is your case... but my 4000 Microquiet wouldn't start one time...
could hear the starter engaging... but nothing would turn..
Tried jump starting, etc. etc....

nothing...

Turned out that the gen was (we believe) right at Top Dead Center..... and the starter didn't have enough oomph to get past it.

Reached in, and manually turned the gen (at the front that was open and accessible for cooling) then tried the starter again and it fired right up.

Can't help you on getting it out. You just have to figure that one out. If you will give me the me the full model and spec I will post a service manual to help you trouble shoot the gen. Some pictures would help for removal .
