Pancake Air Tank

My 93 Pace Arrow Diesel is up for sale! One of the issues I'm having with it is the air tank that's on the firewall has a pinhole leak! I'd like to sell her with a functional air horn.

Problem with these tanks is that their is not a drain on the bottom so over the years they rust from the inside out! The tank sits on the drivers side, Its about a foot in diameter. I'd say a 2 gallon size

Don't want to pay 150.00 for one of these buggers. I can't seem to find anything on Harbor Freight. Id feel safe buying a tank from them....No moving parts! LOL
  • Does this air tank theoretically need to be DOT approved (as opposed to ASME approved as for portable air compressors)? I would guess maybe not for a motorhome, as it's not a commercial vehicle, but I really don't know. Also, what pressure does the horn operate at?

For 40 bucks, Surplus Center has a 6 gallon DOT air tank: http://www.surpluscenter.com/Brands/Hoosier-Tank/6-31-GALLON-MOBILE-AIR-TANK-4-1754.axd
  • Both excellent suggestions. I was "half thinking" the idea of the HF compressor.
Just need to see if I could mount it on the firewall or further down perhaps behind the front bumper?

    Hmmm

    Thanks

What about a three-gallon tank from the bottom of a cheap HF compressor? They put the "pancake" and the "hot dog" versions of the 3-gallon for $39 with those coupons.
  • What about using a boiler plug on the leaking tank.
