power converter

Hello I'm new to the trailer camper world. I bought a pop up trailer that came with a power converter. the model is PD6880QJ04FPB by Progressive Dynamics. It has an A/C input and A/C & D/C output (with what looks like a charger). On the power converter there is a 3 position switch that says "converter", "off", "battery". my question is does the picture below look ok, the batter positive to a distro block that will go to the light, phone charger, car radio, and have the power converter outputs hook to the same distro block, will i need to add switches to "break" the wires so the power cant travel backwards?
  • sorry about the picture, it wont upload. the only reason I think (tought) it has 2 dc outs and a charger, I hood my battery up to the "charger" leads and there isn't any DC volts on the outputs. so it's broken or they are for a charger.

1982 Rockwood not sure on the model

I have not seen one of those since my PUP days (I had one in the PUP) this is a power supply not a converter, It does NOT charge the battery, You basically have a 3 amp unregulated 12 volt supply that can run a light or two.. I would (Did) use it to control a ceiling light (one) in the PUP. The switch let me use it off AC (via the power supply, just a transformer and didoes and I think a small cap but not sure) or battery, which I charged with a outboard charger.

But man, that is a piece of HISTORY.. I mean 30 years at least, it is a genuine antique.

My recommendation is to upgrade to a more modern Progressive Dynamics unit.

IT DOES NOT CHARGE THE BATTERY in any mode.. Mine was modified to do so (By me) but I had major issues with the breaker tripping, It is simply not designed for that job.
  • my pop up has the converter off battery switch. when on converter it only works through the converter, when on battery it only works from battery, the manual for the converter says (not suitable for charging) I use battery charger when the battery gets low.
  • This PD6800 brochure shows that there two diodes in place to protect the converter so another switch is not needed. Unfortunately the converter output is only 3 amps so when switched in "battery" mode, you'll only be charging at the 3 amps minus the draw of the other DC loads. That assumes you are on shore power, of course.
  • I doubt any power center with a "converter", "off", "battery" switch has battery charging capability. Battery power should enter the power center (red/white) and then exit via the blue and white wires to the lights.

Progressive Dynamics is discontinuing support for our older products listed below. We are providing customers with owners manuals and troubleshooting information for the discontinued models.
