Powering DC SiruisXM vehicle receiver with AC

Trying to find a means of powering a DC powered radio receiver with AC power. The receiver has a power adaptor that plugs into a cigarette lighter adaptor and into the back of the device. Both can be disconnected from either end. Either need an adaptor to plug into the receiver then plug into AC. Or need an adaptor to plug the DC cigarette lighter plug into then into an AC outlet. Has anyone solved this problem?

How much power does that Radio need? (Check the specifications) make sure your 12 volt supply can deliver.
Here is a page of power supplies that can run your radio in their sleep.. They can also run MY radio (it takes a 20 amp fuse, and uses most of it). Some of these can run the entire motor home and start the engine with their left over capacity but hey. that's kind of overkill.

Thanks for the quick responses. The Home Kit's adaptor doesn't fit the car receiver's docking station. The power rating is 9-16 V DC, 500mA max.
The transformer/adaptor I linked to above will work for the receiver's rating but you may want one larger so that it can power other devices.

  • A home kit for your radio will include the needed adapter, another larger antenna, and a patch cord for the speaker.

You can also go to an electronics store and purchase a universal adapter.

If this just feeds a signal to the normal dc audio system it uses very little power

    Car receiver?
You need a 120v to 12v dc ADAPTER aka a wall wart
Look on the receiver for the power rating
