Pressure Washer --- First Time Buyer

Generac 3100psi gas, PowerEquipmentDirect.

Special thanks to JD and Westend. Ordered it, plus surface cleaner, brush, extra hose, detergents, etc. Should be here next week.

I'm thinking of getting a 15" surface cleaner as I have lots of driveway/patio area to clean. I would even think of getting a semipro surface cleaner, but specs say you need 3 gpm plus to operate them. I think 3 gpm pressure washers are out of my financial reach. Looks like $1000++ to even get into that range.

Think about your hose length and figure out if you'll need more hose.

Amazon shows weight of the unit itself as 66-pounds and that sounds about right. The higher shipping weight might relate to the tariff for shipping that combination of Dimensions and Weight.

If you can justify the extra cost to get 3000-PSI, I'd say it's worth it.

What's the other model?

If it's this one... Portaled through Amazon, I can't see a difference in the specs, and $399 on your doorstep no tax is very attractive.

Having ---Zero--- luck finding your specific Karcher models on Amazon. Do you have links to the pages?

FYI, Honda small engines really run well! I'd accept one with a B&S, probably never wear one out on a pressure washer. The ones to avoid are the Honda Knock-Off's. They run fine till something goes wrong. Then they're trash - no service parts available.

I've used Sta-Bil with good results in the pressure washer. Lately, I've been going to the marina with my gas can. They sell ValvTecht, which is 89-octane, non-ethanol, and has a one-year stabilizer. I took the Honda carb apart twice to clear it after standing with un-stabilized 87-octane gasohol. No more.

From what I've seen, to get 3 to 4 gpm, would cost $1600 or so. Don't want to spend that much.

We have the Karcher, from Costco 10 years ago, 2400-psi at 2.5-gpm, 5-hp horizontal shaft Honda. It does a good job, but replacing it I'd try to go 30-30(3000-psi at 3.0-gpm). Pressure washers are more than the Tool-Time-More-Power thing. More powerful ones are simply better. I helped a neighbor maintain two pressure washers for a house painter buddy. We'd get one fixed and give it a thorough checkout. Power washed every surface on two houses and two hours. One was a real beast. Twin Cylinder V-Twin B&S turning a 4-piston pump. I think it was 40-40. That said, you can remove paint you wanted to keep, tear the grain out of wood you wanted smooth and even worse cut a track across the top of a wet bare foot.

Extreme care required using a power washer on an RV. It'll peel the caulk and decals off, just for a start. When I use ours on our RV it's more of a sweeping process than a scrubbing one.
