Protection from hail, any ideas?

No. Insurance is reactive and causes your rates to increase. The OP is trying to be proactive. Good for him, I say.

Park under a bridge, a gas station canopy, or in a car wash. If you want protection at home, you could either park under a roof or make some contrivances for protection. Line X or similar may save some plastics during light hail but heavy stones are going to wreak havoc.

Only protection I know of is a roof,, Metal is best,, Be parked under a roof.

Saved a small car in driveway by using several lounger cushions, but not practical for RV and would have been difficult if there had been wind. It was easier than a week at a body shop with a big deductible on the insurance.

My RV is bristling with custom fabricated Hail cannons!



I jump around inside on my modified pogo stick wearing my special tin foil coated armadillo hat, pressing a flatulent red button over and over whilst blasting Wagner's flight of the Valkyries over and over again at maximum volume.

It is 100% effective!!!!, but only if If play some Mussorgsky when the storm approaches and when I prime and load the cannons with my special ingredients.

I've never suffered any hail damage since I started doing so.

And fun to boot!

for spur of the moment protection I cant think of any way to prevent hail damage to an rv. Having seen too much damage to vehicles in storms lately I now carry two moving blankets in my truck. If rain turns to hail I toss one blanket on the hood and one on the roof of the truck. has saved me from damage on two occasions in two summers. Just an idea.

Ah yes, hail... just got toad back from body shop last week - about $3900 following hailstorm damage at Cheyenne Frontier Days the end of July. SOOOO glad rig was parked in Denver - just up for the day! No glass breakage - car next to ours not so lucky... ended up with new hood, they fixed roof and fenders. Golf balls from 10,000 feet pack quite a whallop! Unless you put 1/2" of Line-X type coating, I doubt it would make a difference. I do carry several sheets of closed-cell foam about 3/8" thick in the rig (stored flat under mattress and dinette cushions) - enough to cover windshield/hood of coach if needed, but it was 90 miles away from where we were for the day. Did get quite a reaction from manager of the local body shop - they occasionally see some hail damage around here, but nothing like what we went thru!!! ST

unless whatever you install, there must be 1/2 inch between real body and Cover...

and what about your car/truck... its called insurance.

what about New car lots. trucks.... a few years ago a Chevy car lot had 3 million in hail damage in 1 afternoon.
anything with thin processed Skin (metal) steel/aluminum. then windshields. formed plastics... etc.

and the reason some trailers are skinned with a fiberglass type ... much better for this kind of issue....

fyi, the plastic things on our trailer roofs will only last 10 years in the Sun... Vents/AC cover/Refreg vent/cover. 10 years...
