regulator

I am looking at a water pressure regulator that is factory preset 40-50 psi.Does this sound like a good choice.
  • Yes but get one that says "Full Flow" on it, such as the one made by Valtera (avail. at CW).
That way you won't have low volume if you have more than one faucet on or a faucet and shower at the same time.
There are more expensive options but they aren't necessary because the high flow part will give you all the volume you will ever need and you will never have pressure problems.

I am looking at this one on ebay it says 15 to 20% more water flow.
  • You get what you pay for....IMHO, look at the Watts regulators. The Valtera is also a good choice. Most of the others are better than nothing, but just barely....Dennis

I would like to get one of these more expensive regulators but i have an older rig with the PB plumbing. With this type i have to be extra careful with the pressure.I have looked into these regulators from rv filter store but the pressure that they produce is like 55 to 60psi.I am not comfortable with that pressure.I think i need to stick with 40 to 50 and try to get one with a good flow.
  • FWIW, I've been using the High flow Valtera for many years and it does everything I need.

I wished they sold one that was high flow with a gauge.I see one with the gauge but it doesnt say that it is high flow.I know i can get the gauge and high flow regulator separate but i would like to get a combo.

Ditto. We haven't had any problems with this unit.
  • I have a 20 year old rig with the PB pipeing.Where would be a safe setting for my regulator and what would be considered max?

NON SUFFICIENT INFORMATION. So I'll give you regulator 101.
Regulators come in several types and sizes

Common ones sold for RV use (JUNK) this is a 3/4 inch cylinder with male hose fitting on one end and female on the other, non-swivel female end, solid brass, or solid plastic it is not capable of 1GPM flow rate and will seriously restrict the flow of water. Symptom, you first turn on the faucet water flows well but slows to a trickle.

HIGH-FLOW: like above but with a brightly colored grip on the female end, Camco's has wings on the body.. Slightly better, but still junk for the most part.

Sur-Flo.. This is the one that is built into many motor homes. If it is not part of your water inlet then it is kind of a retangular plastic thing Held together with 4 screws. it too restricts flow but not as bad as teh ones above.

Watts, Valterra or other "Whole House" type regulator, These big brass assemblies generally cost in the range of fifty dollars and up.. Valterra has a knob and a pressure gauge, the rest have a BOLT that sticks up out of a bell shaped houseing. They may or may not have a guage.. I recommend (Other than Valterra which comes with hose fittings) at least 1/2 inch, just bought a 3/4 inch (it was cheaper than the 1/2) They work very well..

Still. Here is what I noticed.

Sur-flo, dead locked on 50 static, but when I turned on the shower, 10 PSI.

    Watts 3/4.. 50 static, 20 shower

The new one (Brand not known at this time) is a Watts-a-like, My sense is it will be higher pressure but i will test later today.
