Remote controled heat/ac

Is it possible to operate furnace without the remote?
I can turn in the ac but when I hit the button on the wall unit for heat, the indicator light just blinks.
Thanks for any help.

    It is a Dometic and remote is SHOT! Getting a bit chilly hear in GA and need more heat than the elec. fireplace can put out.

    Have you lost the remote or it just doesn't work?

    Doesn't work..change the batteries
    Turn t-stat OFF then restart it

    I guess we'd need to know things like, what kind of thermostat.
