Replacement Fridge Bigger than the Door.

We have a Dometic RM3663 refrigerator in our 1997 Lance truck camper. We'd like to replace it because:

1. It doesn't work and we're told a new cooling unit would be needed. It seems the electronics are OK. Unplugging from 110 causes it to switch to propane and the flame comes on. Plugging it back into 110 turns the flame off and the heat is maintained.

2. The doors have cracked (rough Forest Service roads) and are being held together with duct tape. Serious problem for the wife!

It seems, though, the camper door is too small to get a new fridge through it. What to do in a case like this?

More info.

I keep a remote thermometer sender in the refrigerator to keep an eye on the temperature w/o opening the door. I concluded it wasn't working because the fridge temp didn't drop when turned on. But the freezer works just fine!

Freezer temp = -6 deg F.
Refrigerator = 50 deg F.

I thought the refrigerator part tapped off the freezer. If so, how is this possible? Can these things get a vapor lock?

In the words of Ross Perot..."measure twice, cut once." Next time, don't buy until you have it all figured out.

Great information except the OP clearly stated he had a Lance truck camper.

We just replaced the fridge in our 2002 Lance. The old Dometic 2554 would not go out the door even with the door frame removed. We removed the old one by separating the cooling unit from the fridge box, then we could get it out through the door. We brought the new one in through the slideout opening since the slide was removed for repair anyway.

I replaced our fridge with same size fridge a few months back. Had to take the RV door frame off to get a hole big enough. That was a chore plus putting it all back after. At that it seemed like there was about 1/16" clearance. ๐Ÿ˜ž Had a real battle, needed son to help.

Remove fridge from the enclosure then remove doors from front, remove cooling unit from the back.

Window? Escape hatch over the bed? A smaller fridge?
