Replacing a Carrier A/C

I just ordered a Coleman A/C unit to replace our outdated Carrier unit. The new Coleman is a model #48203C966. The one I ordered is supposed to be a direct replacement that will allow me to use the current remote to operate everything. If you have done this please tell me how easy it was or if you have any tips for me. I need the moral support.

Last I knew you had to buy an adapt-a-kit. I could not get one when I did my Carrier to Coleman so I ended up doing something different.

I do however remember the instructions.. Remove the old A/C and gasket from roof. Set new gasket on roof and set A/C on top of it.

NOTE in doing this you must remove the ceiling cover and 4 bolts. while there Tag and unhook all wires.

Remove all the electronics from the metal plate Remove metal plate

Transfer electronics to NEW metal plate, mount and attach
Plug in adapt-a-cable and plug in A/C replace 4 NEW bolts (different size) but DO NOT TIGHTEN.

Measure and carefully cut styrofoam panel.

Install panel and tighten bolts till indicator is where they tell you it should be.

Test. if it works replace ceiling cover and filters. DO not forget to clean filters.

The other A/C I used an Advent Air (Do not recommend) I did not have to replace the metal plate. Just the roof unit, but I did have to replace one of teh sockets on the Carrier control box.. The poor RV techican did nto know how to do that.. My Certification is in electrnoics. So it was covered in my training.
  • I had this done last year. ( i used my warranty and had a RV dealer do the swap) You need a conversion kit along with the coleman AC unit, in order to use the remote control. Mine works fine with the coleman unit. There are videos on YouTube showing the procedure and wiring the conversion unit
