roof leaking

Back 5' roof is spongy, willprobably have to replace wood under roof material. will material have to be replced also or will it pull loose & be able to be reused? any idea what the cost would be for someone to do this. talked to n rv repair shop hasn't got back to me yet. thaanks for ny help with this.
  • We ended up doing out whole roof. I was going to try patching sections, but there was too much damage as I started to pick away at it. We had damage to the rafters, walls, and all the way down to the floor. If you have roof damage I'd prepare for additional water damage once you start the project.

As for cost, it depends on the size of the roof and materials you choose. I ended up going with Dicor TPO and purchased it for under $300 on Amazon. I haven't seen it that cheap since. You'll also need to account for glue, butyl tape, lap sealant, and wood.
  • Yes, you can peel back a roof membrane and reuse it.
Question about the cost of repair by someone else might be better addressed in the "Tech Issues" or "General" sections of the Forum. If you hang around here, in the DIY section, you'll probably get an estimate of the materials. RV Circus got you started with cost of his membrane. IMO, anyone that can build a dog house can repair an RV. I'd suggest to DIY and pocket the money difference and miss out on the aggravation of taking it somewhere to be repaired.
  • I'm sure sorry for the damaged RV issues discussed above. I too had some damage from a rubber roof late in 2015, but I was very lucky and caught it very early when the damage was just to the luan. My issue was not failed caulking or lack of proper maintenance, it was a failure of the rubber membrane and water was leaking through it.

My solution was not cheap, but then a new rubber roof isn't either and both options are much better than a new RV when your old one is basically salvage value. But why would you want to spend a lot of money on a new rubber roof and expect different results the second time and you still have issues with caulking?

My solution was This. It was done in January 2016 and I have never been happier and it was just a hair more expensive than a rubber roof and that was due to the luan that had to be replaced. And the install took 2 1/2 days vs a month as quoted my dealer.

PM me for more specific details.
