Running rubber LP tubing directly to regulator in RV oven?

Hello All,

I recently bought a little Wedgewood 4 burner range/oven from an RV. I want to use this in the shop on a 20lb propane tank. I know I need a 2 stage regulator, but my question is: How should I connect the bottom of the outlet of the regulator to the inlet of the oven?

From looking at it, the inlet is under the burner cover. I don't know what size it is yet (does anyone? I'm guessing 3/8), but from looking at YouTube it seems like this would have originally been connected to the copper tubing in the RV it came from.

My question is:
- Is it safe to slip a piece of LP hose under the range cover and run it directly to the stove inlet so that I have one piece tube between the regulator and the stove,
OR
- do I need to make a piece of 3/8 copper tubing w/ flare connectors to the oven, and then get that close to the propane regulator. THen use a rubber tube between regulator and copper. This would be more like the usual setup in an RV.

Thoughts?
  • Nope! No rubber in or near burner box ! Copper or black pipe at least 3 ft from oven is my recommend. Then rubber hose t grade for propane and a regulator for low pressure delivery.
  • Per Atwood (Wedgewood)

    • Gas line material inside the burner box must be rated for a minimum of 300°F operation
  • That is my initial thought but it seems like the boat forums all use rubber! I can't quite figure that part out.
  • I would be uncomfortable with rubber hose being that close to the heat. I'd use the copper tubing to where it is well away from burners and oven.
