Rv water heater turning on then shutting off

Our rv water heater wont stay on and we are having the worst time trying to fix it. We literally live in it right now. We cleaned all dirt and debris out. Press button inside and it turns on stays on about 30 seconds and shuts off. Dont know where reset button is or how to check the panel. It was bought used it's an Atwood system in hurricane rv non electric option propane only. Plz help.

It did work for a while like months. The stove can be on and it will light.
What i was trying to ask is are you positive your propane tank is full? When the propane is empty the stove will still light and work. But on high you will notice its not as strong as normal.

Its just a quick easy way to figure out if your propane is low. Which might be why your water heater wont stay lit.

Clicks, gas ignites then shuts down
Flame Proving Signal is not sensed

Could be dirty spark electrode tip...high ignition voltage can pass but the milliamp flame signal can not
    Loose/dirty electrode connections
    Cracked ceramic insulator

Post Model Number so specific info can be provided

I'm guessing it has been working if you have been living in it. but let me ask a question? Is it electric as well as gas. If it is. there could be a on off switch out side in the WH compartment. And the reset button is out there as well. The on off switch should be just behind a little pipe. It is a rocker switch.

If you haven't been using it. Make sure the by pass valves are turned to force water into the tank, and be sure it is full of water by opening a hot water faucett until water flows out of it.
    Hope this helps

OP stated it was an Atwood gas only
Suburban has the electric switch in outside compartment.....not an Atwood

  • Is this RV new to you and has the water heater ever worked?

That will help determine if the water heater has water inside and the valves are allowing water in and out.
  • Can you turn the stove to full blast and see a nice big strong flame?

Take the cover off the water heater. Flip the switch again and run outside. Does the water heater propane light at all?
  • Post is fine. No need for help or support. See response in Class C forum.
